Title: Gen V Starters
Post by: pokenutter on May 12, 2010, 07:28:41 PM
Alright, so most people who read Bullbanews have seen the story on the B&W starters being revealed.  Which starter will you chose?

I'd chose the grass starter.  That's something new for me, as Grass has always come in second place for me.  However, I can't take the otter seriously, and the other one is a Fire Pig.  Seriously?

ANyway, the Grass starter is mine.

I like the otter

I will choose the water starter (what ever the hell it is), because that's what I normally pick, next to grass.

[The grass and fire starters seem to have more of a creature-like shape more than the blob-like water starter. :/]

I have a method of choosing.  Once the official artwork is released, I will print it on large paper, then tape it to a dartboard.  I will throw one dart at each.  Whichever has the dart land closest to it's mouth will be the one I use.  I have used this method since I got my copy of FireRed(that time it was Squirtle), and it has worked each time I played through a game a different time.

Ennie-meenie-minnie-moe works just as well... you don't have to stab a picture of a starter Pokemon no matter how much you may hate it. :P

But that isn't random.  My way, each one has an equal chance.  In theory. Depending on whether or not the air conditioning turns on while I'm changing the pictures.

Besides, most of them are pretty ugly anyway...

So you confess to deliberately wanting to stab a picture of three starter Pokemon?

It's going to be an easy decision for me. I have no DS, so I won't get to take any of them. :P

The grass starter looks like a Pokèmon I'd chose, while the Water starter looks like a Pokémon I'd avoid and only capture/choose for Pokédex entries. Before making any decision, though, I', gonna wait and see what their evolved forms look like, for it is possible that I like the design of a starter, but not its evolved form (Totodile is a good example here).

Meh, in the end I'll end up with the Fire starter anyway. It's always Fire for me... x_X

I actually liked Feraligatr, but Bulbasaur's final form was...O_O'

Yeah, Feraligatr wasn't as bad as my post above might imply, but seeing how my weird mind works, I need a strong impulse to willingly decide against the Fire starter in each generation. I don't know, I just wouldn't personally prefer it over Typhlosion...

Venusaur was sort of weird... Not so much in the GB games, but especially in Pokémon Stadium, where it seemed to have an.... let's call it an "eye problem"...

Yeah, I never understood that...  I don't know if that was a programming error, or if that was deliberate, to make it look more intimidating.

I hope the Pokemon in the game don't end up looking like something from Neopets...

That would be terrible.  At least we know that Pokemon can't become a Neopets clone... seriously, what do you do with them?

*gasp* How dare you suggest that? I'm not a barbarian. I stab them individually.

i pretty much go with a grass-fire-water cycle. So,

for Kanto, I went with Bulbasuar
for Johto, I went with Cindaquil
for Honnen, I went with Mudkip
for Sinnoh, I went with Turtwig.

So, for Isshu (???), I'm probably going with Pokabu...who actually looks kind cute....can't wait to see it's evolved forms...

Well, usually, I don't have a list of Pokemon I will always use; I have a list of Starters that I'll never use.  My list is Squirtle, Chikorita, Torchic, Piplup.  Squirtle never seems to match my style, and it always seems under-leveled in terms of stats.  I can't stand Chikorita, and only use it when I've completed 2 second-generation games with the other two starters.  I have nothing against Torchic (you really can't argue with Blaziken), but the other two are just cooler.  Piplup...  Let's just say that I don't like it, and save everybody from the rage-filled explanation.

Zekrom... Sounds like a Steel-type to me...

Well, not that surprising, since steel is one of the infinity plus one types in the series.

Is it me, or does Reshiram look like Arceus' head, Lugia's wings, Dialga's back-spike things, and a more-or-less random tail?

I'm getting the grass one, possibly only because he walks one two legs.

The otter like thing walks on two legs too. I'm definitely not getting the stupid fire pig though, it looks it will have bad evolutions.

BLUE-Charmander
GOLD-Cyndaquil
LEAFGREEN-Squirtle
DIAMOND-Piplup
PLATINUM-Piplup
SOULSILVER-Cyndaquil
and B/W-will be Mijumaru

Discussion official names now:

Oshawott? Uhh... I'll get used to it, but seriously...
Tepig is cool, but Snivy is better.

Another generation starting with a Grass starter, 3 out of 5.

I was going to use Oshawott. I don't really like the name, just seems too long. The other two are fine.

Just going with Oshawott because the final evolutions of the others aren't that great.

I'm either going with Oshawott or Snivy; can't decide.  I really like the first evolved forms of both, but the final evolutions of all three starters are kind of freaky-looking.

Based on my rotation of starters, i am going to Oshawott.

I like Oshawott's name because it sounds like a foreign exclamation.
