NintendoWiki discussion / Re: NintendoWiki Coverage and Scope - main thread
« on: December 16, 2013, 11:29:52 PM »
I don't think they ever did but Sega Genesis games were released on Wii Virtual Console, so the page could maybe redirect to List of Sega Genesis games on Wii Virtual Console and the games could be listed there, like on this page. The links to those games should be to Wikipedia and should not create red links, in my opinion.

The consoles released by Sega could be mentioned briefly in a history section on an article about Sega itself, mentioning what advantages those consoles had in competition with Nintendo and also the significance of mascots including Alex Kidd and Sonic the Hedgehog.
That sounds like a good balance.

Should we cover any of the following?
* Achievements: Awards Nintendo (or one of its properties) has received, like "Game of the Year".
* Events: E3, Spaceworld, etc.
* Legal: lawsuits by or Against Nintendo, etc.

Also, going to get started on topic-specific threads, now that we have some topics down. Please look at the header post for links.

I think all of those should fall within our scope.

My issue with having articles on every game is that most of the times they will be inferior in quality to the article in the correct wiki. This can also detract editors from the specific wikis, not only readers, as it was mentioned. It's not inconsistency because there is one very simple rule: there's a wiki to link to, we link to it; there isn't, we have the article. Regarding what was said about NWiki not being independent; truth is, it's part of the hub, ergo becoming a "hub" wiki, so it won't be able to be fully independent. Plus, it is run by us, the staff of the other wikis. This isn't a Wiki we adopted and helped, this is a project we started from scratch to boost our hub.

And I support coverage of Nintendo-related companies and am partial towards the character articles.

The problem with the "important series" approach would be to come up with an objective system to determine which are important and which aren't. Only the main 3? Series with more than X games sold?

In my opinion coverage should be:
*Full coverage of hardware.
*Full coverage of history and people.
*Articles on all series.
*Game articles only when there is no member wiki to link to.
*Keep current coverage of NIWA.

Without him the gaming industry wouldn't be where it is now, he will indeed be missed.

We don't have any links from the forum to the hub, would it be OK to add one next to the "Home" button?

It doesn't quite make sense to have it as "(disambiguation)" when there is nothing on the Donkey Kong page.

Wiki References / Re: Creating new Classes?
« on: September 03, 2013, 07:27:39 PM »
I'm not exactly code-savvy, but I think I can help you here.

By viewing the source of the Main Page you can see each box has its own class ("news", for example, is the class of the News box). If you go to MediaWiki:Common.css, you'll see the classes are listed here; here's what "news" says:

Code: [Select]
.news {
  background-image:url('http://cdn.wikimg.net/metroidwiki/images/f/fb/News_mainpage.png');
  background-repeat:no-repeat;
  background-position: center center;}

If you want to create a new class for a new feature, all you'd have to do is something like this:

Code: [Select]
.<class name here>{
  background-image:url('<background image here>');
  background-repeat:no-repeat;
  background-position: center center;}

I believe the images themselves are made semi-transparent beforehand.

Nintendo Gaming / GameSpot's Greatest Game Series of the Decade
« on: August 29, 2013, 08:05:56 PM »
GameSpot is having yet another tournament, this time to decide which game series is the best of the decade (not quite sure what they mean by decade here. 2010-2013? 2003-2013? 2000-2010?). Anyway, they are already in the second round, and so far, of "our" series, Mario Kart, Smash, Fire Emblem, and Pikmin have been eliminated. Super Mario and The Legend of Zelda remain.

Here's the bracket.

I'm rooting for either Fallout or TLOZ to win it all.

Thanks!

Oh man I have to admit I cried... I just can't believe it... Ax was my first friend at NIWA, I met him even before NIWA, he was always great to the SMW and myself, a great admin, but an even better person. I wish I could have worked with him longer.

Rest In Peace, Axiomist, you shall never be forgotten.

My condolences to everyone.

Remind me again why MarioWiki has an article on Snake...?

I swear, MarioWiki's coverage of Smash will always seem suspect to me.
Because it is an extended part of the Mario series, and we cover everything related to the mario series, that includes Super Smash Bros. And because our Coverage says so, we are a wiki covering the Mario series, and being Nintendo's mascot, they have sub-series, and series related, and cameos and all that. So we cover them all. Even Banjo and Conker. In some way. People have complained, but we aren't changing it

And you leave the place as a Nintendo Master...

I wonder if that automatically makes him a Pokemon master......and a Mario Master......and a Zelda Master
Oh it does  8)
