NintendoWiki discussion / Re: NintendoWiki Coverage and Scope - main thread

I think that'd be the best for the short term. While I think there's long term potential for the series to have its own wiki, I don't believe it's at that point just yet.

To follow up on my previous comment... Steel Diver would be a great franchise to test that with, given that it's now taken off due to Sub Wars. If they continue to add ships, maps and missions, I could easily see it eventually being spun off to an independent wiki.

When we established N-wiki, my intention for it was that it should cover characters, but that it should primarily do so via disambig pages or redirects to the dedicated wiki for that franchise in NIWA. Titles which seemingly have no hope of ever having their own wiki (because there were never enough games in the franchise) should most certainly fully developed character pages, etc. As for titles which could eventually be spun off into an independent wiki....I thought that they could use N-wiki as a platform to start developing their content, with that content then shifting to the new wiki (and the N-wiki pages being turned into disambig/redirect pages) when they'd reached the tipping point.

Adam, I still have an account with GoDaddy, though it's sitting empty and unused right now. Just talked to dkpat, and he's fine with you transferring them to me so I can get them setup. What details do you need? My GoDaddy account number is 2949137, but I think there's additional stuff they need there, isn't there?

When did that happen!?

Sometime last year. They were part owners by June last year (http://www.vg247.com/2012/06/21/report-nintendo-has-co-ownership-in-fatal-frame-ip/), and I'm given to understand (though can't find the links quickly) that they purchased the rest late last year.

Hey, hi, hello there? :)

Umm Cameraslens here, I got an email asking if I would check out the NIWA community etc. :) So I figured why not? I run Beyond the Camera's Lens, which is a Fatal Frame / Project Zero fansite. Also run the Zero Wiki, (http://www.cameraslens.com/fatalframewiki/) and forums, and helped with the Fatal Frame 4 English Translation Patch.

So, it is very nice to meet all of you!

Hello there. =)

The NIWA forums isn't all that active at the moment, though some things are planned there for future. I think the email you got was more from someone hoping less that you'd hop on here and more that you'd just have a chat with them and us about the possibility of Zero Wiki joining NIWA at some point in the future, given that Nintendo now fully owns the Fatal Frame / Project Zero IP.

Don't ask me about the Photobucket thing, this is the default SMF skin, not a customized NIWA skin. No idea why it's like that.

As for why the avatars are gone....also beats me. The stuff that caused the initial upgrade to fail had nothing whatsoever to do with avatars, those should have come through perfectly. Hell, I even still see them in the database. Something for us to look into.

An upgrade to the forums initially failed, for reasons unknown. It took us a while to recover things, but in the process we found that our old skin was totally incompatible. We're in the process of fixing that, but we've opened the forums in the meanwhile to allow people to get on with their conversations.

RIP Axiomist

It always feels kind of surreal to learn that someone who you've only ever talked to online has passed away. I think I can speak for us all in saying that NIWA simply won't feel the same without him around. He will be greatly missed.

I have plans to move these forums over to more robust software at some point in the hopefully near future. When that happens, I imagine we'll try for a more united look between the hub page and here.

The Lounge / Re: Copyrights on Wikis

In many cases, the wikis should have a tagging option for images which allows you to specify how it is that the wiki is allowed to use the image. If they don't currently have something for "copyrighted image uploaded by and used with the permission of the copyright holder", then suggest they add it.

That's how Bulbapedia does it, we just add the ad code directly to the style files.

NIWA Discussion / Re: DAWN - Developmental Alliance for Wikis on Nintendo
« on: January 23, 2011, 01:21:40 AM »
After deliberations amongst the staff, we've come to a decision that further discussion of DAWN here on the NIWA forums is not appropriate, and that the presence of this topic here may lead to misunderstandings from those outside NIWA that we condone or support your group. We feel that you would be best off in taking discussions of DAWN to another forum, perhaps one you may start yourselves.

If you want to discuss this decision, I suggest contacting either myself or Axiomist via PM or Skype.

NIWA
Nintendo Independent Wiki Alliance

That answer your question?

Realistically, most of our members are already either affiliated with forums or running their own forums. We'd do simple affiliations with some major external forums on a case by case basis, but those would still be subject to site vetos. For example, Serebii is a prominent independent Pokémon forum, but being a site that's very much a rival to Bulbagarden/Bulbapedia, an affiliation with them would be subject to our veto.

A new draft manifesto is currently sitting on NWiki, if anyone wants to take a look.

Our response to other IWA's would be on a case by case basis. While we might be the inspiration for them, we can't be sure that any IWA created would necessarily share the same long term philosophies or goals.

I might suggest it would be easier to create this index on WikiIndex, giving the wikis on there "Independent" or "Wiki Farm" categories as appropriate.

NIWA Discussion / Re: Interwiki Transclusion of content
« on: December 30, 2010, 03:30:29 AM »
Transcluding probably won't happen across all wikis in NIWA. In some cases it would actually be a license violation. In others, there's concernes about use of bandwidth and loss of ad traffic (which is needed to pay for that bandwidth).

Bulbapedia's server (which are in Australia) talk to WikiBound's server (which are in Utah of the United States)
Bulba's servers are in the US, actually-- not sure specifically where, but I know that they're somewhere in the US. [/fun fact, and besides the point]
Yup, they're in Texas.  [/fun fact, and besides the point]
