Link, appearing here as the Hero Chosen by the Gods in his Twilight Princess design, is the protagonist of the The Legend of Zelda series. Despite wielding the Master Sword and several items from his adventure in Twilight Princess, he controls not much differently from his appearance in the prior two games.
As one of the 22 characters available at the start of the game, Link's moves are greatly based upon the items he can collect in Twilight Princess. The Hero's Bow is his standard special move; Link will pull back an arrow and fire, being able to hold the arrow in place for as long as he needs. The arrow does minimal damage on contact, but features one of the longest ranges in the game, able to be shot clear across some stages. Link's side special move is the Gale Boomerang, replacing the normal boomerang that his previous Smash Bros. iterations used. The Gale Boomerang deals some damage, but its real power comes in its ability to pull opponents towards Link, giving him the ability to take a closer shot at them with his sword. His down special move is the Bomb, allowing Link to pull out a bomb and throw it at opponents. Opponents are able to catch this item and throw it themselves, and the blast radius, while small, deals a good amount of damage, though far less than a Bob-omb would. His up special is the Spin Attack, which can deal heavy damage and whirl enemies around when used on the ground, and efficiently elevates Link when used as a recovery move.
Link's Final Smash is the Triforce Slash, pulling the first opponent in his sight into a brutal volley of slashes that ends with a powerful finale, sending the opponent flying.
Link's normal moves are the core of his power, with his use of the Master Sword to slash at opponents being behind most of their power.

Link's alternate appearance, as he appears in The Wind Waker and the many handheld games released in the The Legend of Zelda series. Much like the Young Link variant from Super Smash Bros. Melee, he controls very similarly to Link, with slight modifications for his different appearance.
One of the four characters not unlockable until the Subspace Emissary has been completed, Toon Link's moves are based on the items he can collect in The Wind Waker, all of them that game's respective variants on the items from Twilight Princess. The Hero's Bow is his standard special move, and works much the same as normal Link, varying in power by how much he pulls back. It cannot travel as far, however, due to Toon Link's shorter stature. Toon Link's side special move is the Boomerang, featuring its design from The Wind Waker, and though it does not pull enemies toward him like the Gale Boomerang does for his counterpart, this Boomerang has a larger range of targets, and can be thrown further. Toon Link features the Bomb as his down special move, in the cartoony design used in The Wind Waker. While weaker than his counterpart's bombs, Toon Link's bombs have a greater blast radius, and leave behind the large cartoony smoke cloud they did in The Wind Waker. Toon Link's up special move is also the same, being the Spin Attack, however, unlike Link, Toon Link's attack can carry him much higher due to his lighter weight.
Toon Link's Final Smash is a variant of the Triforce Slash, with a more cartoony appearance than that of Link.
Toon Link's normal moves have slightly less range than Link's, and he uses his sword more to make up for his shorter limbs. Of particular note is Toon Link's downward slash while in the air, which pauses for a moment before dropping, making for the possibility of recovery from being knocked far above the screen. Toon Link is also slightly faster than Link when running.

Pikachu is one of the 649 species of Pokémon, an Electric-type Mouse Pokémon. Introduced in Pokémon Red and Green, Pikachu quickly became the mascot of the Pokémon series, being featured as the starter Pokémon of the protagonist of the anime series, Ash Ketchum, and generally being available in each game in the series in some way.
In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Pikachu is available to be selected as a fighter from the start, just as in the previous two games. Thunder Jolt is its normal special move; Pikachu releases a small jolt of electricity as opponents, sending it bouncing across the field, or, if released on an edge or in midair, as a ball until it makes contact with a surface. Generally, Thunder Jolt does very little damage, and causes little knockback. Skull Bash is its side special move, and acts similarly to Luigi's Green Missile, though it does not have a random chance of having an explosive launch, nor the ability to be held for as long as the player desires. This move, depending on its level of charging, can have extreme knockback, even at low damage levels, and is useful for returning to the stage if knocked away. Pikachu's down special move, Thunder, calls a thunderbolt from the sky to strike Pikachu, dealing heavy damage to those nearby, as well as some damage to those directly in the path of the downward bolt of lightning. Its up special move, Quick Attack, allows Pikachu to quickly zip between places, and with the right timing, can be used in two directions without landing.
Pikachu's Final Smash, Volt Tackle, is based on the special attack of Pulseman, Volteccer, in appearance, and in Japanese, in name as well. A difficult-to-control attack, Pikachu barrels around the field, able to shock those it comes in contact with either by striking them or by releasing energy nearby.
Pikachu's normal moves tend to be on the weak side, especially its non-smash moves, which do not use electricity. Its neutral attack can serve as an annoyance, trapping opponents with repeated hits, while its downward smash wraps opponents in a cyclone of electricity.
