Kirby / 1Ups best DS games

I figured to check it out and look what came in at #10!

Well NIWA reached the ripe old age of 1 yesterday (Feb 14th), and the new Hub design by Tappy has been released. It's a step towards what we want NIWA to be and many other projects are in the works. And because this thing is new, be sure to report any bugs with it (if any). The layout is meant to be cleaner and display our Affiliates more prominently.

But a bonus feature that Tappy gave us is the Random Article! This will randomly take you to articles among member wikis!

Let us know the IP of the jerk and we'll ban. I've got like five or six different IPs so far, and I'm sure the same IP is trying on multiple accounts so the faster we ban one, the fewer people that get hit.

Thus far from my emails.

NIWA Discussion / Re: Ads in a wiki
February 06, 2011, 05:48:29 AM
Well any of us currently using an ad account could send you a referral. Which ad account you choose, if you use the referral, the wiki that you got it from will get a bonus. :) Pm me if you want Kontera, WiKirby would need to make a lot of referrals to run at cost.

NIWA Discussion / Re: Wicarus

Double posting, but I don't care :p The changes on the main page are looking good in my screen res. At first the "Gamedom" url made no sense to me, but then I realized it must be a play on the word "kingdom". Clever, but will Wicarus always operate at that domain? I have a proposal for a template style, I thought of it when working on the wikkii Palutenapedia Main Page; but haven't implemented it.

Glad to see you guys starting to integrate templates into articles.

Well if you strip down the core coding of WiKirby's Main Page you can get columns. Usually I'm eager to help people with that, but I haven't had much time lately. Do you (Ahmlink) use skype or any other IM service?

Anyway, I love how powerful the Copy Abilities seem to be in this game. I'll bet you have to mimic the moves with the wiimote.

Well I'll tell ya what I like and don't like. I like how you have a section with 3 Featured Artwork pieces. Very original and adds flair to the page. Two videos are cool too, but you need to use a lower size. Just a tip; the largest block of your traffic is going to be using 1024x768 screen resolutions. You'll find that the NIWA wikis aim to design for that resolution. The countdowns are a good addition, people always like those. But I recommend installing GIMP or some other image editor to get some transparent images for at least the main page.

Note: I just saw a screenshot of Wicarus in your About page. The main page isn't showing up with multiple columns on my end. I'm seeing each template stacked as full spanners.

NIWA Discussion / Re: Happy Birthday to WiKirby!
January 25, 2011, 05:37:24 AM
Thanks to everyone for the Happy Birthday messages!  :eekdance: As I just posted on the WiKirby main page discussion:
QuoteSince most of our first year was all about laying groundwork and setting precedent where possible-more than article/template creation; I think its safe to say we'll have a lot more articles created and snazzier templates over the rest of this year! With the small amount of work we've done so far, many a wiki staffers and editors came around and found inspiration to bring back to their home wiki. So imagine what great creations we'll have when we actually have more time to focus on those

This isn't "bias" as much as insider knowledge that I feel is a good time to share. NIWA has been great to us for innumerable things. And I'd like to point out that WiKirby has returned the favors. I'm not sure if all NIWA Wikis have an example of something developed at WiKirby and brought home to them. But I do know many do whether they know it or not. Just a small list of things I know of:

  • Round Corner template-Most of you may associate this one with Bulbapedia, but truth is, Neo (Justin) created it first on WiKirby and some time later was brought to BP, in which they adopted it and renamed to {{Roundy}}
  • Main Pages -WiKirby was built based off of Zelda Wiki's main page primarily. While staffing Zelda Wiki, I avoided main page work, but loved to dabble on WiKirby's for even the smallest improvements. A lot of what you see on WiKirby's Main Page borrowed ideas from other wiki's Main page, but brought the pieces together with style in mind! Honestly, before WiKirby, most wiki main pages were less pleasing to look at. Now it seems the Main Page philosophy of WiKirby (having many cosmetic pieces and colors) is becoming a norm around NIWA. Main Pages are finally tipping from pure utilitarian to near works of art!

I'd post more, but I've got to get some sleep. Feel free to inform us all of any WiKirby-inspired changes made at your home wiki!

Today, the players put the wiimote down and ate, Prince Fluff and I got so bored we jump-roped with our own yarn-bodies. FML.

WiKirby still needs help with cache restorations. I posted the details in the [http://www.niwanetwork.org/forums/index.php?topic=705.msg15390#msg15390]WiKirby History Hole[/url] thread.

I made a list of pages I haven't checked, although, Vellidragon restored several of them before. Easiest thing that you could do, without even editing is compare which articles in the list have the same or more information as the zipfile mark it off of the list.

I was relieved his knitting needles fell back to Patch Land. Gives me hope for a sequel of some sort.

What does NIWA plan on doing with regards to the development of other IWAs? Is NIWA going to help those out, and if so, to what extent? Will NIWA affiliate with them?

We do hope other wiki alliances will form. We can't be too involved in the creation of those, but would gladly share the enough details that a basic model could be formed for them.

Affiliation, like others said, would be case-by-case. I presume you ask for your DAWN group. Since that grouping is still in its infancy, we probably couldn't reach a consensus on affiliating with it.

Membership and Affiliate Requests / Re: WiiBrew

I don't think it's legal. I ran into that site way back when I was searching for Zelda Wiki affiliates. I asked myself "Is what they promote here something I want to endorse on behalf of the organization I represent?" and since I answered "no"  :police: I moved on.

Even if it is legal, void the warranties and risking a good wii isn't something NIWA should casually endorse. That's my own opinion, but I suspect many others would agree.

Affiliation at least for the DQ wiki. It looks like a large wiki and is practically Nintendo. Is it a second party game? Not sure if that is a correct term, but if it is, would those wikis be allowed in, as they are Nintendo

It's blurry. The latest game is as much of a Nintendo game as Pokemon and Kirby are. The way you can tell if a game is published by Nintendo is to look for their logo in the bottom right hand corner.

Glad you came around, I'll bring everyone's attention to your post here. All of the others will need to view Dragon Quest Wiki for themselves. And weigh in on the matter. As indicated by inviting you here, I'm supportive of it. I do know the latest DQ game was published by Nintendo, so although it's not a perfectly Nintendo published series, I think DQ fits in well enough that NIWA's branding wouldn't need any alterations.

Add me to your skype chat. I bought FE Shadow Dragon to get some full sized articles created. I focus on levels since you don't really need much other knowledge of the series to write them.

Seriously, this is one of those "don't complain about it, change it" things -

That's exactly what I was thinking. I haven't picked up an SSB game, and have tons of other things to do on WiKirby. So if anyone has the time to add interwiki links to SmashWiki, you'll have my appreciation  ;)

Play Fire Emblem or Zelda for story, as those are story-heavy games. Kirby is action.
