The new skin they've implemented has caused many wikis to leave and go independent or to another farm, some have formed an Anti-Wikia Alliance, and some (including their largest wiki) have left.(Including the Animal Crossing Wiki, Sonic Wiki, and Donkey Kong Wiki, Sonic Wiki is becoming independent, DK is considering it, and AC has joined ShoutWiki), and some are considering NIWA-esque alliances (such as wikis about anime/manga).
I find this to be quite hilarious, as Wikia did this to themselves.
I know most of this isn't new info, but still.
Yeah, I keep saying that too. Wikia editors may have gotten accustomed to all of the intersite-crosswiki activity, but with all of the drop outs, those days are on their way out. Pretty much any Nintendo Wiki not in NIWA will see activity fall off later in the year as people naturally move on and new editors find the NIWA wikis first.

Out of curiosity, what was their largest wiki?
I would guess the Muppets Wiki or something.
WoWWiki (now Wowpedia) is the largest wiki to have left, and was the largest Wikia wiki full stop.
I heard they tried to offer them some "exceptions" to the new skin (like larger article width) to get them to stay. Pretty pathetic on WIkia's part.
I can't even log in on Chrome anymore because of the new skin's new buttons or something that don't work on Chrome. Pretty annoying... but pretty nice that there are a lot of wikis leaving. Unfortunately, you can't delete a Wikia wiki..
Edit - there's an Anti-Wikia Alliance (http://community.wikia.com/wiki/Forum:Anti-Wikia_Alliance) out there, just so you know.
I know, and they're redirecting Nintendo based wikis to us.
Speaking of, someone shoul contact the DOnkey Kong wiki, they are considering leaving.
Someone already has.

Would they merge with the Mario Wiki or create a new DK Based Wiki if they were to agree?
That's something you'd have to ask them and porple. He's the one who contacted them.

New DK-based wiki!
And will that affect our coverage in any way?
I personally don't know too much about the DK series but my guess is that it will depend on how in depth MW's articles are concerning the DK series, among other factors.
I believe that a new DK wiki should be here. I checked the quality there and its pretty good stuff. Mario Wiki wouldn't be able to focus as much on the diversity of the DK series.
I think I remember reading somewhere that the creators of Super Mario Wiki once created a DK Wiki. After some time, they ended up merging because of the great overlap in content. Do I remember this correctly?
SmashWiki's glad to be on board and away from Wikia's endless meddling and fixing what ain't broke.

Hmm. I wouldn't know this. Ask Porple.

Yeah, you are correct, that was called the "Wiki alliance". There was also going to be a WarioWiki and a YoshiWiki

That's the Wikia way!

well, I don't know about yoshi, but a Wario and a Donkey Kong can possibly justify seperate series.
Also, I don't see why there can't be seperate wikis on overlapping content, honestly, it's an alliance of Nintendo Wikis who are independent, why can't one that wants to go independent join in, even if it overlaps with another wiki?
EDIT: Great news! http://www.donkeykongwiki.com/Main_Page

It was just made today, thanks to porple, of course.
He did the same thing he did for SmashWiki.

You beat me to it.. Darn
Sonic Wiki is moving as well, do I sense an affiliate?
So so far we have FE wiki, which just got it's own domain, DK wiki, and WikiBound as possible future NIWA members.

ugh. Sonic Wiki?? No. Not Nintendo. We can affiliate them, but they can join a SIWA or something. ;D
