All admins on the wikis and this forum: Why are you so heartless?

I teach undergraduate students for a living, and am a research student.
...says it all really.

Question for the NIWA Admins: Metroid Wiki and Wikirby seems to have close ties with the NIWA, and yet they don't appear to be "official" members. Why is this the case?

Garlic Man

The reason they are closely tied is because they were projects created with the intention to eventually join the alliance.

The reason they are not yet officially inducted is because they simply aren't at a big enough scale size-wise.

Right-o. WiKirby began as something we could link to. Zelda Wiki.org defaulted to linking to Wikipedia. And this deal was way too one sided. The Wikia group periodically changed any Wikipedia links going to ZW to link to their own wiki. So now, we can link users to a wiki covering the content that will link back to us. It's a nice circular path.

I'm not entirely sure what qualifications we need to meet to be a NIWA inductee/full member but meeting that would be easier as a member. However, it was my suggestion that we meet some standard to earn inclusion to be fair to later applicants. Right now I'm looking for places to advertise, get a good member base going to become a wiki that can stand alongside the NIWA members, but yes I did include niwa links and banners to WiKirby to show support and all that.

tacopill

what if NIWA ran fundraisers, and then use the funds from them, purchased ad space on the wiki's?

Justin

What wikis, exactly? It would be negative progress to advertise on our own wikis XD

Although I think you mean on Wikia. However, do you really think Wikia would allow that? They'd laugh in our faces.

Eh, it doesn't matter. We can make it on our own!  8)

What makes you say that?

tacopill

not just wiki's, but any niwa-wide events we hold. Similar to the Wikipedia Meetups, or if we hold competitions, or whatever.

The best thing we could do with any money would be to advertise in Nintendo Power. It'd probably cost an arm and a leg tho.

hmm, come to think of it, I dare one of you to ask them their rates.

I double dare you to ask them!

also how mush does a wiki cost?

Axiomist

I don't remember the exact number but it was between $60 and $80 to get it started up. I'm expecting around a $40 renewal on the hosting, add $25 if it gets large enough to warrant a dedicated server. I put ads on it, but I expect it not recoup costs for a few years-best case scenario. It's no big deal tho. I have a full time job-so paying for my site isn't going to kill me or anything.

Thanks man.

I tried an "indirect" advertisement in the equivalent of Nintendo Power for LatinAmerica

tacopill

not a problem. Hopefully they don't just laugh me off.

Honestly, I think it's rather premature to consider purchasing advertising. If we were going to though, some of us have industry contacts who, while maybe not able to give us any discount on the rates, could at least point us at the right people.

Hello everyone. Over at the Super Mario Wiki there was this discussion about replacing the logo. I was thinking about your opinions on the new logo.
