which version of ash?
For that matter, which version of Red? Gen I, Gen II, manga...
Red would win either way, because he beacame the Pokemon League Champion before he went to Johto, and Evolved all his starters, in Gen II, and has the highest level Pokemon of all trainers in every Generation he's been in, (Remember, even when he's playable, even a few non-experienced players have at least three Pokemon more Powerful than Green Oak's before they face him the first time.

Who is green oak?
The rival of Red in the games. Basically, Red inspired Ash the same way Green inspired Gary... sorta.

But i thought he was based on Blue (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Blue_(game)).
They're the same, just English/Japanese naming.

but i am trying to figure out why he/she is using the japanese given name, and attaching the oak family name.
It's pretty confusing, but the first two were Red and Green. So the first default name for him in Red was "Green", and in Green it was "Red". Afterwards, Blue was released with updated graphics, and his default names included both "Red" and "Green". But Green wasn't released worldwide; instead, only Red and Blue.
So in the worldwide release, in Red his names included "Blue" and in Blue his names included "Red". In Yellow it's "Blue" in both Japanese and English. But in Fire Red "Green" was included again.
In Japan's Pokémon Special, he's still "Green" and "Green" the girl is still "Blue", but everywhere else, he is "Blue" and the girl is "Green".
In all games, though, he's Oak's grandson, so his last name is Oak, or Oukido.
that's exactly my point.
1) The english name of the game character is "Blue Oak"
2) The japanese name of game chatacter is "?????????" or "Green ?kido"
Therefore, he/she is is mixing the two names, and it is confusing me.
Ash. He does not need to adhere to the rules of Pokemon, unlike Red. His, like, level eight Pikachu shocked an Onix so hard that an immunity turned into a weakness. (That's not to mention that rat's level is probably in the thousands by now, as the standard level cap clearly doesn't apply to him either.) As half the Pokemon movies have taught us, if it's for the better of the plot, Ash will always emerge victorious. He could beat friggin' Arceus with a baby Rattata, given enough determination and one-eye-closed injured facial expressions.
Of course, Red is the better trainer by miles, but that doesn't make a bit of difference.

yeah, i hate how with Adventures all of a sudden everyone insists on using Japanese names. well i mean, using Japanese names is fine and dandy, but everyone always mixes the names! if you're going to use Japanese names, go all the way plz. "Green Ookido used his Lizardon", fine, "Green Oak used his Charizard", wtf? /pet peeve

Wait, this is being done in Manga? so the mixup is official Cannon?
that just makes things worse!
Is this even a question? Red hands down. Red has Lapras. Ash has a Pikaderp.

I call it a Pikaderp. It should have no reason losing it's Electricity twice.

There are plenty of reasons an electrical source can loose it's power. They just choose two of them, and moved on.

Still no reason. Plus how can it lose to Pokemon many levels weaker, such as Roark's Cranidos. Pikaderps weak.
Plot points, my friend, plot points.
Just you wait: In one of the movies, Ash will go back in time and fight himself, and lose.
I'd vote for Red from the Games. Not only is he a quiet protagonist, but he actually manages to disband Team Rocket and beat the Indigo League, unlike his anime counterpart.
BUT THEN THE SHOW COULDN'T CONTINUE IF HE DID THAT. D:
Ash was rarely ever given a chance to take down legit Team rock officials; so how can we say he couldn't? The anime didn't follow the game closely in the beginning, so how can you compare them at all?
Also, Pikachu has been purposely restarting at a lower level, so he doesn't stay OP'ed like he was in the first season.
Ash because Pikachu is the most powerful non-Legendary in the show
