I'm at the beginning of the game, I'm no longer battling any animals, they just come up to me and I win, it is supposed to do that?

It means you're overpowered and are OHKOing the enemies. Ther's nothing wrong with yore game, so don't worry.  ;D
I blame the economy.

ok good, although I'll get attacked by three sharks at once and die, two I can handle but three...

Tina

Oh, god, the Sharks. I remember giving up on the game when I was like, 9 because of them. And then when I played it years later, all I needed to overcome them was to buy all the equipment at the drugstore and I only took like... 1-3 HP from all of their attacks. XO Bluh!

Try kind of luring them away from each other if you're having trouble with them in groups. It's kind of hard for me to explain in words. :S

Earthbound can be a bit confusing. If you need help, you can watch Chuggaaconroy's Earthbound Let's Play.
I blame the economy.

how do I get rid of that mushroom on my head?

Tina

Go to a hospital and talk to the blue-haired old guy in there, he'll take the mushroom off of your head and give you money for it.

Don't ask me why he's the one paying to take the mushroom. I don't know what he's going to do with it.

when it says a item has "multiple uses" what does that mean? is there a set number of uses, or unlimited?

can I buy back any rare one time weapons?

Tina

Nope. Once you sell it, it's gone. So anything that you only get one of (Mr. Saturn coin, etc), you can't get it again.

I can't even sell some of Jeff's weapons

Tina

Ah, yeah. You can't sell things broken things you can't buy (basically everything but the spray can, I think?), and the repaired forms of it, for whatever reason. If you need to get rid of them, just dump them off to the Escargo Express. :D

Now I got a question. I can't find the fourth melody in Mother... n00b

Tina

That one's pretty easy to miss-- it's in Rosemary Manor in Spookane, you'll need to get the house key from a lady in the town. She'll be all like YOU LOOK LIKE SUCH A BRAVE BOY, TAKE THIS KEY (lol old game logic).

The house is a pretty big maze though and the suits of armor can be a pain to fight against (also the dustballs explode.), so you'll probably be abusing 4th-D Slip often.

I'm about to fight Giygas, what is your recommendation for items and levels?

R7308xx

#17
You'll want Ness equipped with either the Gutsy Bat or the Legendary Bat (both of which can be found in the Cave of the Past), Paula with the Holy Fry Pan, Jeff the Gaia Beam, and Poo the Sword of Kings (found on Starmen Super in Stonehenge Base, but its a 1/128 chance of finding it). If you don't have those, use your next best equips. Try to be at at least level 60, though you'll probably be at about level 70 or 80 after searching for the Sword of Kings.

Helpful? Please write us back and... JK.

Naesala

I'm over level 80 and have both Jeff and Poo best weapons

R7308xx

Forgot to post this, but you can find the Holy Fry Pan in a shop in the Lost Underworld.
