Super Smash Bros / Re: New Assist Trophies and Poke'ball Pokemon
« on: July 27, 2011, 01:40:45 PM »
Parakeet: Like Mr. Resseti, exept does Parakeet versions of the Characters' voice clips, and can change the background music to music from SD card, even changing vocals to Parakeet with AAC files.  Also plays sounds from 3DS sound in Parakeet form.

Nice. What game would that be from, or would it be original....

It would be the parakeet thing from the voice changer on the DSi.

It's called a budgie in the European DSi and 3DS (a budgerigar is a special breed of parakeet, from Australia popular here in the UK, but rarely anyone calls it its full name.)

It would be cool to see an assist trophy based on one of Nintendo's early toys, like the Rabbit Coaster before they made video games. If Starfy makes it as a character in SSB4, I'd be excited to see Old Man Lobber or something as an assist trophy, or maybe a specific character like Shinigami who could come from the background and grab a character with his net, KOing them if you do nothing to stop him.

How about Phanto from SMB2? The assist trophy could be Phanto and a key. When you grab the assist trophy, you actually grab the key so Phanto flies after you, so you have to throw it away (where it will easily stick to the hands of another player if it touches them. (Edit: That would probably work better as an item)

I think Mickey Mouse has a chance of appearing in SSB4. Nintendo published the Japanese version of Epic Mickey apparently.

Should SSB64 5:00 demo be in SSB-U/3D?

With Multiplayer mode intact of course...

I never really liked the idea of the Masterpieces thing, because you can do so little in five minutes, unless you hack the game to prevent the timer from ticking down :/. It would make for an interesting 'time attack' mode with your friends though, i.e. how much % can you deal before the time runs out xD.

Nintendo Gaming / Pre-cursors to older game engines

People at ROMhacking.net finally finished translating For the Frog the Bell Tolls, a game about frogs and snakes and princes... :D It's the precursor to The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening's engine for those who don't know, where Richard appears as a character in the game.

It was rather primitive, there were automatic combat scenes with the same results in which sometimes you'd need a particular item or power-up in order to win.

Another game like this was Tomato Adventure, which was an action-command RPG which was supposedly the precursor to Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga's engine. Apparently, the Hermie III boss is actually based upon the 'Hermie' enemies in Tomato Adventure who were also decorated hermit crabs.

There's even some unused music in M&L SS based on Tomato Adventure (and possibly the canceled GBC game Gimmick Land)'s title screen.

It's your game, do what you want with it. INB4 "the bill".

There is an already existing save file, would you like to overwrite it?

X-Scape (well 3D Space Tank as it's known here in Europe). The awesome sequel to X. Just downloaded it on the eShop, since I never got a DSi.

There's now a binary star orbit between our sun and the Golden Sun. You get fed up with this crazy world, and fall asleep where you dream about some weird cross over between the Pokémon Dream World and Subcon, in which...

NIWA Discussion / Re: Kid Icarus Fans & Sites
« on: June 30, 2011, 03:08:48 PM »
Yeah it is sad; unfortunately, I really don't know what can be done. We and other NIWA users could continue to expand it, but the effort is futile without a genuine Kid Icarus community. I think the only hope is that Kid Icarus: Uprising for the 3DS brings many new fans to the series.

Don't worry about it. Kid Icarus Wikia is quite active, maybe you could become a well known contributor there, since you know loads about Kid Icarus. It would be a lot more fun than editing by yourself, and there's already a structure to expand on. Maybe you could help out Arkatox on his Kid Icarus Uprisen blog.

Fans don't come all at once, for example have you heard about Operation Rainfall. It's a building petition of people who want to get Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, and Pandora's Tower localized outside of Japan.

I wouldn't say the Starfy community was very large at all, its definitely one of the most fragmented I've ever seen. I haven't seen any active Starfy fansites, except for Starfy Wiki itself and like one or two Japanese websites.

NIWA Discussion / Re: a virus

i got a virus while browsing super mario wiki. it was a "rouge" anti malware program. can someone fix it for me?

Odd. Was it through an ad?

I'd strongly advise searching for a removal tool online for the relevant software (if you can't find its name, this might be helpful? : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_rogue_security_software) if your computer lets you browse the Internet and then doing a (real) virus scan after removing it. I remember that I once got a rogue anti malware program called AntiVir Solution Pro simply by clicking an ad link, which hijacked the program on to my computer. I don't know how exactly.

- DuckDuckGo - a great search engine, with keyboard navigation, automatic redirection to secure versions of sites, easy search of a load of other sites (say, !w query to search Wikipedia), no tracking/any sort of data retention, and a load of other stuff

DuckDuckGo is awesome, its been my home page since last year. Its great because most spam results are filtered out, and your searches aren't tracked for commercial purposes, and sometimes it will give you a comprehensive answer without even having to click on any link.

  • http://www.iaza.com/ - A useful online image modification service. You can use it to make transparent images and other cool things.
  • http://www.wikiindex.com/ - An old Wiki, focused on indexing every Wiki. It's still active today, though unfortunately constantly attacked by spam bots.
  • http://www.wolframalpha.com/ - The "Computational Knowledge Engine". It's like an interactive calculator for all sorts of things. Personally I use it to insert special ASCII characters and find out what they are.
  • http://www.armoredpenguin.com/wordsearch/ - Make your own word search puzzle. There are a ton of these websites, but this one is one of my personal favourites.
  • http://elgoog.rb-hosting.de/index.cgi - Elgoog, a literal 'mirrored' Google. Very old, but its still a good novelty joke. Interestingly, for a while some people used to use it in China after the domestic banning of Google.

The Lounge / Re: NIWA Community Thread 2011
« on: May 09, 2011, 07:30:35 AM »
I wanted to ask for a little clarification regarding the NIWA Community website. Whose task is it to update the content?

As administrators of Starfy Wiki, The Forgotten Beast and I wrote a brief summary about Starfy Wiki for use on this page, and I've sent this message to Tappy via private message; the NIWA coordinator who hosts the new starfywiki.org, because we weren't actually sure who deals with updating the descriptions.

Yea, we seem to be having some communication problems on the staff side, here on the forums and on skype. It's been a while since we added new members, and things have changed somewhat since the end of the Third Wave, so there were bound to be some problems.

Anyway. If nothing happens, please email the NIWA coordinator, Xizor, and he will see what he can do on the issue.

Thank you so much for the advice. It's OK now; the description was recently added to the page.
