I buy all three, all though it's been a long time since I bought anything

I "spend" Wii Points on whatever is free, like Internet Channel or Nintendo Channel. I see the whole system of getting them as more complicated than it needs to be.

I get Virtual Console games because I don't want my NES/ SNES/ N64 games to stop working.
