Okay, I want to know: Which server do you guys feel we should stick with... DarkMyst (which is where the MarioWiki has their chat) or SystemNet (where Bulbagarden and Bulbapedia have their chats). I am posting a poll because I want to see what the majority of our users are comfortable with.

Here's my opinion on things:
*DarkMyst - simpler to use.
*SystemNet - a bit more... difficult for my taste, but seems to have more features in regards to controlling a channel (with the rankings of "halfop" and "superop" being more clear than the numeric-level system of DarkMyst).

I ask that you state your reasons behind your opinion in a post if you want to. In any case, please do vote.

DarkMyst, even though both are pretty much abandoned, SystemNet is even more abandoned.

Nothing I can add as to which to use. But I could explain the situation at ZW.
Zelda Wiki.org, uses Skype as its chat, both for general users and staff. We found that it was simpler use and more dynamic.  Our previous attempts at IRCs failed because no one wanted to use them. This was actually the idea of myself and Mases. We saw some other sites doing it, so we started one up. It's the main chat for it now and we've found it far more effective than an IRC, our official IRC channel was closed down shortly after starting on Skype.

Frankly, I don't think anyone will use either... atleast not until the forums have a lot of active members.  ...And even then, I kind of doubt it.

We can create a NIWA skype chat for any and all members. But I can tell you that the NIWA staff chat has a conversation almost everyday. Not quite everyday, but almost. I'd expect a larger one to be active daily. You'll have to download and install the software, but it's free and painless (as far as we know).

Ah. Right away, gotta say this. It's a popular misconception that Skype is voice chat only. Surprisingly most people we ask to come on Skype think it is. Skype actually has an excellent IM system that's superior to other IMs. It has a chat history that can go back as far as you want it to, you can edit your own IMs at any time and even remove them, and it has a much more dynamic group chat systems than any other IM. Plus a really good organization of group and one-on-one conversations without a mess of windows like other IMs have.

Just had to clear up any confusion that anyone might have had about it.

See this screenshot of skype
Pictures save the time of explaining it, so just have a look and you can see what skype will be. It's a just a simple little box that can be moved to any place on your screen.

IMO Skype is too complicated for some users to use, you need to download, and stuff. The MW uses DarkMyst and it works quite well. Actually, the only visitants of #niwa are mariowikians...

At last, some explains it. I keep seeing "#mediawiki on irc.freenode.net" on mediawiki.org, but had no clue what they were speaking of.

You guys are welcome to jump over to irc.nixtrixirc.net

We have ssl, trivia, zelda trivia, werewolf and some other stuff, I'm a server admin there so if you need assistance you could always ask me.

Server: irc.nixtrixirc.net
Port: 6667 ( +6697 SSL )

We also support flash clients so if instead of using mibbit that has ADs you can use lightIRC (Ex. http://hyrule.net/chat/ and http://zeldadungeon.net/chat/index.php )
Webmaster of Hyrule.net (a mastermind of ZeldaWiki.org)
