I created this a few weeks ago, and I am the only user to make more than a few edits. When it grows big enough, I plan to move it to independence.

Wahoo! More members is always fun :)

(see that's why Edofenrir is awesome)

Metechar

Nice! The green dino needs his own wiki in NIWA, as does the fatso dude (Wario).

Forgot my password, and I may not ever recover it. But you never know! JUST CLICK!

NIWA can have quite a few more members, though there are not any ones developed...

Jake

I probably mentioned this to you earlier SA, but I love Yoshi. I'd be more than happy to host this for you once it gets off the ground. :)

Surely though, Mario wiki has it covered.

Don't we all want to have this discussion again...  :-\

Good luck on Yoshipedia! :)

Good luck with the wiki!

I can't find a way to say this which doesn't sound negative, and I'll probably end up starting a disagreement, but anyway...

Personally, I don't see this as a productive venture. In what way is the content planned to go beyond what Mario Wiki already offers? Surely they already have extensive info on the games, characters etc. So I don't really see the benefits that this new wiki will offer, just that it will waste time and resources establishing a new project to duplicate existing information. It feels somewhat impulsive and poorly thought out to me.  :-\

Mario Wiki has lots of things covered, which has caused some controversy in the past, and I'll bet it will cause some controversy in the future. So Mario Wiki has nice coverage of Yoshipedia? Excellent, that sets a bar for Yoshipedia to try and beat. There is always room for improvement, and Yoshipedia can work on trying to set the next bar for Yoshi coverage.

It is entirely possible that it is a futile attempt, but new wikis have the opportunities to try out new things and take new risks that developed wikis may not wish to take. Mario Wiki is already set in how article structure goes, so if Yoshipedia can develop a better way to present the information, then they could easily trounce Mario Wiki.

Sure, but there's a bunch of DK games (DK Country series, DK Land series, DK64, Donkey Konga series, DK: King of Swing, Diddy Kong Racing, DK Barrel Blast/Jet Race, etc) that simply don't feature Mario characters. They're related, since they come from a common root and DK characters sometimes appear in Mario spin-offs (e.g., Mario Kart, Mario Party), sure; but there's a separate core.

Is there that core for Yoshi? The core Yoshi games (Yoshi's Safari, SMW: Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Story, Yoshi's Island DS; even spin-offs like Yoshi/Mario & Yoshi and Yoshi Touch & Go,) still feature Mario characters (sometimes as Baby versions) after all.

Ultimately, to me, DK games are a franchise that crossover with Mario games, while Yoshi games are just a subset of Mario games.

Yoshi's Safari, Yoshi Topsy-Turvy (AKA Yoshi's Universal Gravitation), and Yoshi's Story don't have Mario in them. That's beside the point though. The main point is the context is different. If I go to Super Mario Wiki and search for "Coins" it will lead me to an article about coins throughout the Mario series. If I'm a Yoshi fan and I only want to learn about the role coins play in the Yoshi series, too bad because Super Mario Wiki's article only provides six sentences about this significant gameplay element in the context of the Yoshi series. Yoshipedia would ideally have more detail, and it wouldn't make me scroll down to the middle of a long article to find the information I'm looking for.

On a side note: Has Wikkii been down recently, or is it just my computer?

TurtwigA

just your computer I presume.

And I feel that Yoshipedia and Mario Wiki should reach a compromise on this matter.

A compromise on what? I don't see anything that Yoshipedia is doing that would require compromises.

Xizor

It still requires SMW approval, to be sure. But, if they granted it, I think this has potential, given what I know about non-mario related Yoshi games.

Well, it needs SMW approval to be an official member of NIWA. Yoshipedia has the right to expand all it wants and form alliances with individual wikis in NIWA. It also has the right to request help on the NIWA forums. NIWA has previously expressed that they will assist wikis of all types regardless of topic or independence. By posting about the wiki on the forums, Yoshipedia receives the same publicity any member wiki would. In essence, the benefits of NIWA are open to non-member wikis because NIWA is so unclearly defined. No wiki has the ability to block any other wiki from becoming a de facto member of NIWA.

Of course, for all I know, Super Mario Wiki may welcome Yoshipedia with open arms.

Volatile Dweevil

Sounds like a great idea.

Elaboration, please? I can understand it needing permission from SMW (and everyone else) if it wants to join NIWA, but otherwise I can't think of anywhere else where it needs anyones permission.
