Someone was talking about possibly starting up a Fire Emblem wiki, weren't they?

Wikia has a very developed and established one, I'm thinking we should extend a hand to them before going full bore at establishing one ourselves. We don't want a repeat of Wikitroid. Any idea of these guys are in bed with any of the Fire Emblem fansites?

Welp at least you aren't pulling a Porplemontage...

Yusei has been working on a FE Wiki for some time now and has gotten up to 208 articles the state of their content I'm not sure, but here is the link to our current niwa bound one: http://www.fireemblemwiki.info/Main_Page

A few questions.

1. Are our FE guys associated with any major FE website?
1a. Are the Wikia ones associated with any major FE website?
2. Have our guys talked to the Wikia guys at all?
3. Who's hosting our FE one? Axiomist?

1. No.
1a. Dunno yet.
2. No.

3. Who's hosting our FE one? Axiomist?

Yes, it's being hosted by at zelda-temple.net by Yusei (Amy Bolduc). Axiomist contributed the domain name, I believe.

Tappy

I think Yusei said she was going to try talking to them but I'm not sure.

Yeah I talk to Amy(Yusei) in skype a lot and she said she had hosting, had the wiki installed and just needed a domain name. So I shelled out the 2 bucks for a .info :P We figure it would be good for SEO if someone were to search "Fire Emblem info" or whatever.

Xizor

It seems like Amy's wiki is going in the right direction, and it looks like Wikia's is plagued by a lot of the same issues that most Wikia wikis are plagued by. Perhaps the two should be encouraged to form some kind of merger? There's already a server up, owned by Amy, with a good domain name. The two could work together, and it would not cost those over at Fire Emblem Wikia anything. They'd simply have to work together with Amy, which is not terribly difficult to do.

Hey guys, i was wondering is someone can do a formal review of the Fire Emblem wiki, like  SMB did here

If you need someone to represent the wiki, then it is me, as i am pretty much charge of the wiki while she is "on hiatus". (She's now living with her boyfriend, and he/they doesn't have a decent computer to skype on or contribute to the wiki with).

Thank you guys,
Tacopill.

Edit: I just realized, my post maybe off topic. If so, does someone mind splitting it to a new thread?

Xizor

We can get a formal review going soon. If none shows up in a day or two, I'll do one this Friday when I don't have class.

sounds good, and thank you.

Just from a cursory glance around the Wiki, a few issues:

1.) Only about 38 articles were created since we last talked about this. Either Fire Emblem doesn't have a lot to talk about, or this Wiki is growing very slowly.
2.) Layout is bland, but well made. It could be better, but it is functional and easy on the eyes.
3.) There has been no "Recent News" since December 11th - this prompted me to fear the Wiki was dead. However, they have had edits made today, though not many. Which leads to point 4.
4.) There don't seem to be very many editors, and the Wiki seems to be stagnating. It needs a jump-start. However, there are editors and they seem to be active.
5.) No featured content, and the message on the front about Featured Articles/Images sends an apathetic message. Hopefully this can be resolved before NIWA membership, but it is NOT an issue barring them from joining should they want to.

Does anybody know if there was any talk between Amy and the team at Wikia's FE Wiki?

Well, it is not dead. They just added the forums recently, so at least they are taking a big step.

Nintendoguy1

Maybe we could advertise it in the public boards?

(see that's why Edofenrir is awesome)

Just a suggestion, but I'd say to let Amy come around at her own pace. She's trying to do several things and I'd hazard to not overload her. I also recommend any site/wiki with an affiliates section to add FEW. This would give them an incremental increase in traffic/editors. Lastly, I have offered to talk to the Wikia people about a merge and she was pretty adamantly rejecting the idea.

[11/25/2010 10:05:53 PM] Yusei/Eliwood: We still have a lot of stubs right now.
[11/25/2010 10:06:07 PM] Axiomist: The good thing is, NIWA has been running strong. ACWiki totally pwned WK in visitors for their launch 999 in one day
[11/25/2010 10:06:15 PM] Axiomist: We still haven't reached that
[11/25/2010 10:07:14 PM] Yusei/Eliwood: Heh.
[11/25/2010 10:07:28 PM] Axiomist: But the next few will probably put ACW to shame :P I've been busy recruiting, and am willing to talk to the Fire Emblem Wikia people if you want to see if they'll merge
[11/25/2010 10:07:55 PM] Yusei/Eliwood: I don't like the Wikia counterpart.
[11/25/2010 10:07:59 PM] Yusei/Eliwood: I'm sorry.

Xizor

Then we should just let this rest until she approaches us?

The reason we got so many views is because of wikia and the editors there.

Personally, I think that's best. Since Amy's the webmaster and project leader, it would be difficult to make much progress towards NIWA membership without her involvement. I think the wiki will just have to "subsist" until she comes back, with whatever help we can give it (like affiliation, as Ax mentioned)

Xizor

Since you've already been speaking with her, Ax, can you ask her if there's any help she wants from NIWA, or anything we can do for her to help them out? I don't like the idea of us just sitting here doing nothing.
