Title: Layton Wiki
Post by: Manga Maniac on December 12, 2011, 10:59:48 PM
Ah, the Professor Layton series. Where, upon finding out a man has just been murdered, the locals will ask you some sort of inane riddle. And yet, there's something compelling about it.

I've contacted Wikkii's (http://wikkii.com/) Advanced Hosting (http://wikkii.net/) service to see if they'll approve a wiki for it. If they do, then I have pretty much the same functionalities of an independent wiki, and may even get a free domain if I get over 250 unique visitors (bit unlikely, I will admit, but fingers crossed). If they refuse, I shall relegate to ordinary hosting, and build there, with all the important stuff on the farmer. The eventual plan is to affiliate with NIWA once we (fingers croooossed...) reach the normal requirements to join (http://www.niwanetwork.org/join.php). Because, to be honest, I'm not the sort of person who's willing to pay for their own site. Too money grabby, me. I will, of course, still be dedicated to the site. My natural greediness aside.

Once the site is up, I'm going to need massive help making all the pages. On the European/Australia/US title differences: If we get advanced hosting, I might be able to get an extension which swaps out one title for another depending on what language you set yourself. If we get normal hosting, or I find the language thing too hard, it'll be first come first serve. Given that I'll likely be the first one with access to the site, that probably means the non-US ones (Pandora's Box, Lost Future, Spectre's Call, etc.).

Once the site is up, I'll provide a link.

EDIT: Site is now up here (http://professorlayton.wikkii.com/wiki-en/), register and log in to remove ads.

I should be able to help you set that up if you get advanced hosting, if you'd like.

@above: That would be brilliant. I was thinking about using a combination of Multilang (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Multilang), and using templates for the names, but I'm not sure it's the most elegant solution.

Wiki up... and with no articles (http://professorlayton.wikkii.net/wiki-en/Main_Page). I had a bit of trouble with the Vector tabs, but none that should get in the way of proper stuff.

For now, since I got there first, we'll be using the EU for the titles. If it makes you feel better, you can always type it as "Spectre's Call/Last Specter" on other pages. Once the language thingy is up, it should fix most of that. Categories might be a bit of a trouble, though.

EDIT: About that.... uh, Roman advert... All the ads will disappear when/if you register/log in. So, if you're visiting, go do that.

If you want independent hosting, I'll host you.

<-- hosts the Golden Sun and Digimon wikis

@above: I'd be thankful for the hosting, but for now I think we're better building somewhere else for free. It can always be moved later.

It's good to see this start. We can discuss possible membership whenever the Wiki gets going. However, for now, I hope you use these forums as a resource to build yourselves up!

Unfortunately, things are going pretty slowly. I've got exams, and am also working on some other completely unrelated wikis.
