Heya, everybody! I'm Ringtailedfox.. new to the NIWA forums, but i've been visiting its constituent sites for a long time...
anyway, in the past few weeks, the Lylat Wiki (Starfoxwiki.org) went down, and it has not returned... what happened to it? does it need a new host? i could host it if someone needs a place and URL for it...
thankfully, arwingpedia (starfox.wikia.com) is still up...

The wiki...has gone missing. The webhost is flat broke, and has asked me to take over hosting. He said he will be sending me the files, but that he has yet to do so.
My thinking is he is very busy with RL problems.

that's fair... at least there are plans to get it up and running again... do you need a host for it for once you get the files? i was planning on running a starfox fansite (even bought a url for it), but i'll gladly host you if you need a home :)

Strange, this is the first I've heard of this - I would have thought someone would have posted about it here, so people who could help would be able to. I'm glad it seems like it's under control, though, and I hope it gets sorted out quickly.

Yea... the email from him was a surprise to me to. I think it may have caught him be surprise, as he maybe going through a lot.
As for him coming on here... he hasn't been active with anything NIWA-wise for a long time. I am thinking he may have been forgotten about around here, till now.

well, we can only hope he gets things sorted out for himself... i know what it's like to have life strangle ya :P

I hope i'm not breaking any rules in bumping this thread (i don't mean to break the rules), but... the url for starfoxwiki.org now points to godaddy... is it safe (and correct) to assume that it won't be coming back at all? if so, what will fill in the Lylat Wiki's void in the NIWA collection of websites? Arwingpedia (over at wikia)?

Tacopill mentioned last night that he was working on setting the wiki up again. (I'm personally appalled that a member of niwa has been allowed to not exist for this long. it's disgusting.)

Alright, sorry I haven't posted on this in a while, but I have been waiting for the old host to get me the info that was needed.
In the process, we lost the domain starfoxwiki.org to squatters. I have purchased starfoxwiki.info and will be using that when I get all my ducks in a row.
as for the rest:
1. gotten new domain. Fixing nameservers now.
2. moved files to my hosting, uploaded and set up webhosting account on my server
3. getting database soon and then will be uploading it. There is some techincal difficulties with this, so I needed some help from the old hosts tech support.
4. fixed up my host's DNS
after all of that is done
5. I am going to be upgrading it to 1.19.2
6. fix up all extentions to modern standards, removing the ones I no long use, adding ones I do now, etc.
7. fixing up the CSS and Javascript that are out-of-date.

I don't think Arwingepedia would want to move to NIWA
Arwingpedia already has. They were merged into Lylat Wiki. See here (http://starfoxwiki.info/Lylat_Wiki:Merger_Proceeding).
The issue with Wikia is you can never truly leave, only "fork", as Wikia likes to view it. So while all of the content has been moved, the original Wikia stays.

Yes and the same is true for most wikis. Technically anyone can fork any wiki into their own version - even if they don't own or contribute to it.

From a technical perspective yes, but not from a legal one. For example, if you were to create a Bulbapedia wiki on Wikia (this has happened before btw), it would be a violation of Bulbapedia's license. Bulbapedia's content cannot be used for commercial purposes (while Wikia is a commerical purpose as per their license) and requires attribution if reproduced.
