Chikorita, obviously.
-
Charmander was a pretty bad choice way back in Gen I.
-
Chimchar. Bleh.
-
Chimchar, it's just a flamin' monkey. Eh, I'dve thrown a Mankey into Cinnabar Volcano.
-
Didn't like Mudkip very much. Basically a more powerful version of Wooper.
-
As much as I loved Charmander,
he wasn't very good starting out.
I think because of the gym orders back then.
-
As soon as you train your Charmander properly to level 12 or 13, it completely wipes the floor with Brock's Pokémon, despite the type disadvantage. After that it becomes a very strong and rewarding Pokémon.
-
I've played all the games with all the starters and I must say Piplup gave me the most problems as a starter :/
-
I'll go with Piplup... I don't mind him, but I think his evolutions are kind of ugly, haha.
-
No offense, but I voted Totodile. Okay, he's a crocodile, but he's not cool to me. D:
-
I hate Mudkip >.>
-
wow, you are just asking for an "I herd u liek mudkipz" aren't you?
Anyway, something about bulbasaur just didn't sit right with me, but he's cool now.
-
Giant middle finger to Piplup.
-
I don't like Treecko much...
-
Torchic.
It's a terrible starter in Emerald. It turns into a fighting type just as you get to the psychic gym.
-
Mudkip wasn't a horrible idea, but all three evolutions had a horrible design, which is why Mudkip is my least favorite starter. However, Chikorita is my favorite, and the hate he's getting it somewhat shocking to me. But meh.
-
Turtwig. No originality, no ANYTHING. You can hardly even tell what he's based on. Just another grass type.
-

I voted for Mudkip as well, pretty much because of the same reasons. I also have no problem with Chikorita, but well, that's the thing with opinions: They vary.
-
My reason for voting Chikorita is because it truly is the worst.
Weakness to the first two gyms?
I'll pass.
-
My reason for voting Chikorita is because it truly is the worst.
That is what most people would call "opinion".
I voted Chimchar because it barely looks like a Pokemon. The evolutions aren't creative either.
-
I will agree that Chimchar line is uncreative.
They just took the Torchic line, turned them into monkeys, and gave them better stats.
-
Chimchar sucks and so do all it's evolutions. Chikorita is a close second!
-
For me here's how it is:
Gen 1: the are all awesome
Gen 2: chikorita was pretty bad in the beginning of G/S/C but was better later on.
Gen 3: nothing bad happened no matter. Tate& Liza were very easy with Blaziken. AND WHOEVER DOES NOT LIKE THE MUDKIPS GET A BEATING.
Gen 4: they all suck
THESE ARE ONLY MY PERSONAL VIEWS!
-
As much as I loved Charmander,
he wasn't very good starting out.
I think because of the gym orders back then.
Which made it even more awesome, it provided a true challenge no other starter gives you now that fire starters receive fighting type evolutions to have an advantage against the first leader. IMO the worst would be Treecko.

Ah yeah good point. xD
-
I used to hate Bulbasaur before realizing it was awesome.
Mudkip is cool as it is, but the evos aren't that well made.
My least favorite overall would have to be chikorita.
-
if its based on opinoon I kinda didnt like Chickorita mainly because it has weakness to the first two gym leaders
-
I HATE Totodile.
Yes, it wasn't as bad as Chikorita if you wanted an easy time, but I don't care about weaknesses against Gym Leaders (all the Gyms are easy anyway, especially in Johto...except that freaking Whitney and her Miltank). I usually chose the Pokemon that would be weak against the first few gyms without even knowing it. Piplup, for example, has become my favorite starter, despite being the "hard mode" of Sinnoh. It's good against the first gym, but has a hard time with the next few gyms. Although I guess Chimchar is also hard to use at the very start of Sinnoh. I just can't stand Totodile. Chimchar is another Pokemon I can't stand (well, mostly Monferno and Infernape, it's evolutions, those overused imps).
-
Wait, Piplup was a bad choice?
I thought I just sucked. ;_;

It could be that you do suck! Just kidding
But yeah, Piplup was a "bad" choice if one wanted to have overall good match ups at the start of their journey. Later on though, Empolean has many resistances and an immunity (I believe). Plus, Piplup looks awesome (not that ugly Prinlup though :P) And Empolean looks even more awesome ^^
-
That's the only reason I picked it, Piplup didn't look f***ing weird.
When I have the choice between a penguin, a goddamn tree, and a flaming monkey (I see what you did thar Nintendo) I'm going for the bird in the tuxedo.
-
Haha, funny post. Although I thought Turwig was okay, still weird, but okay looking.><
I'm confused though, what exactly did Nintendo do? >>
I'm a little tired and don't get it, :eekdance:
-
Flaming monkey = Gay person according to Nintendo.
Nintendo is comprised of homophobic terrorists.
-
o.O
But yeah, main thing: Infernape is baaaad ;D
-
I will narrow this down to the difficulty in making a decision on the starter:
Generation I - Very Difficult (6/9)
Two of the Generation I starters were truly quite amazing... it is almost impossible to choose between Charmander and Squirtle... even though I am a fan of Charmander... Bulbasaur gets a... Meh...
With regard to Yellow Version... Pikachu is so overused that I don't really have superbly strong feelings in that respect. Blasted Rival and stealing the Eevee you should have gotten from Professor Oak...
Generation II - Somewhat Difficult (4/9)
Cyndaquil is rather weak early on... but Quilava and Typhlosion make the journey worthwhile... whereas Totodile is the opposite. Chikorita is not even an option for me... Another fail on Nintendo's part with regard to the grass starter.
Generation III - Rather Simple (8/9)
Treecko made up for the lacking in awesomeness on the part of its grass predecessors, and is my immediate choice. The other two were really quite well done as well... but none compare to my fetish for Fawkesian masks and Grovyle.
Generation IV - Impossible (0/9)
I hated all of the Generation IV starters... Turtwig was a meh... Piplup was a meh... and Chimchar was a FRAWRK!!! The games made up for it with some of the legendaries and Lucario... but the starters are "breath-taking."
All in all I guess you could say Generation III was my favorite... and Generation IV makes me feel mentally unstable inside...
-
But the reason Nintendo made some starters hard to use was to make the games slightly more diverse. It is really as simple as catching a Pokemon that covers your starter's weaknesses. I don't know, but I find the games all easy, even as I chose Squirtle, Chikorita, Mudkip and Piplup respectively.
-
With regard to Yellow Version... Pikachu is so overused that I don't really have superbly strong feelings in that respect.
You'd think he would be overused since he's the only available one.
Also, I added Pikachu to the poll; he was missing.

I more meant the overused respect in terms that random number 25 is the mascot... main Pokémon character in the anime... etc.
-
I found Treecko real boring, nothing going on with him.
also, am I the only one who thought Quilava was way cooler than Typhlosion?

Clefairy was originally going to be the mascot, but the anime made Pikachu so popular (Pikachu IS cute in the anime) so they changed the mascot to Pikachu.
Due to this fame, Pikachu is portrayed as WAY stronger then he is in the Anime and sometimes even the Pokemon Adventures manga. I personally wished Mew was the mascot >< He was also a contender to be the mascot, I believe, since he WAS the first patented Pokemon (before the games even came close to being released o.O)

Anyone notice that Pikachu also seems to get stronger in each generation? He's fairly viable in gen IV, and appropriately you really can't evolve him either if you want him to stay usable.
-
Why can't you evolve him? Certain moves? I always evolved Pikachu whenever I got the chance, if I used Pikachu at all.
-

Because of light ball. What makes him particularly viable for endgame in gen IV (I can't remember if light ball was in gen III, i don't think so though) is that this item doubles Pikachu's special attack when held, but if you evolve him to Raichu it doesn't work anymore.
Edit:
Correction! It was in gen III and had the exact same effect.
Edit 2:
Oh my goodness it was in gen II also. Pikachu has been playable forever!
-
Oh, I see o.O
I was wondering what that item was that Pikachu ALWAYS seemed to have ><
That explains why every time I fought Pikachu, it seemed to do more damage than my own, even at lower levels :P
It's just that I don't know hold items that much, since I rarely ever use any besides leftovers, the choice items and plates :P
-
Pikachu. Barely affects Brock, isn't strong enough by the time you get to Misty, and it can't evolve unless you trade it away. I WANT THAT EEVEE!!!!!!
-
Chikorita. Generation II had some of the best Pokemon, but Chikorita takes the lead for worst starter, closely followed by Piplup, who I can't stand.
-
Piplup wasn't bad. Honestly, he's not exactly cool looking once he evolves, but he's pretty powerful. Actually, I kind of thought that Totoodle was pretty bad.
-

I actually thought he looked really cool.
Chikorita is the worst though, imo.
-
I picked Piplup; I'm not too far but he's pretty good, I think. And I do like the way Piplup's line works too.
I don't have much experience in gaming but I'd say I dislike Turtwig.
-
Chikorita. Wasn't as cool or useful in the early or most gyms. worst choice of GenII
-
I think Ash Ketchum is the worst starter Pokemon.. No attacks..
-
It's actually usable once it's a Meganium, but in SS, I had so much trouble with the first two gyms! I was SOOOO happy when I beat the first two gyms. Chikorita is the worst. It IS epic when it comes to looks, though! But it sucks when it comes to the battles.
-
Piplup. I always chose the water starter. Once I chose Piplup and tried using it, I knew I made a mistake. It looks bad, it sucks bad and I restarted the game with a Turtwig.
I also hate the fact that there are now three fire/fighting starter evolutions in a row! Think of a new type combo guys!
-
My least favorite starter pokemon is... Octoroks! lolz ;D
-
I'd have to say charmander it doesn't learn a lot of fire moves (ember and flamethrower)
You should also add Gen V starters too
-
Tepig and it's evolved brethren. Lower BST than the other starters, and has same typing as Torchic and Chimchar's families.
-
I voted Pikachu. Because he sucks. And is too overplayed.
-
But srsly, Charmander sucks.
-
Any leaf starter sucks. If you want a leaf Pokemon, just catch one at the beginning
