Title: Favorite Mario Games? (Spin-offs included)
Post by: Patori on February 17, 2010, 05:05:06 AM
What are your all-time favorite games in the Mario franchise?

Mine would be: Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Galaxy, New Super Mario Bros., Mario&Luigi: PiT/BIS, and alot of the old-school games.

What about you guys? :mario:?

Gah! How could I forget SM64? It was my first favorite Mario game~ Aha, that game brings back many memories. xD

Oh, and Mario Kart Wii was really fun. Man, there are a lot more Mario games than I remembered. o_o;

Yep, it counts. ;)

I don't really have any favorites because there's way too many to choose from. Plus they keep making new games.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. The game that re-ignited my passion for the Mario franchise some years ago. :mario:

For myself it is the very summit of the whole series. I don't expect any Mario game of the future to bring me the level of joy I experienced with that game. Most other games of the series aren't bad either, though.

I felt that way too, it still remains as my favorite Mario game, and I've replayed the story without getting bored around 18 times, still doing it.
Super Paper Mario was a downgrade in my opinion.

Nice to meet someone who thinks alike. :)

Super Paper Mario had a few flaws, but the biggest of them: I think they shouldn't have ditched the original battle system. It was a splendid combination of traditional turn-based RPG fighting and action. It was much fun. It surprises me that so few games try to include a similar system into their gameplay...

It was fun for the first play through but it lacked the re-playability that the other 2 had. Sure it still kept the funny RPG theme going but it wasn't the same, I'm one of those who consider Super Paper Mario a spin-off rather than a sequel.

But TTYD was one of those rpgs that were fun all the time, and one of the very few where I didn't want to skip battles towards the middle.

I loved Super Mario Sunshine. It's a very cool game, yet for some reason everyone hated it.

That's nice, what do you guys think would have happened in TTYD if all of the old partners appeared, like they were supposed to? Would they replace the new ones?
Title: Re: Favorite Mario Games? (Spin-offs included)

Ironically, the partners from the first Paper Mario were planned for Paper Mario: The Thousand Year-old Door. They were cut out for unknown reasons, though images from the rom supports this.

I've like their turn-based RPGs... this includes the Mario and Luigi Series... the Paper Mario Series... and... the Legend of the Seven Stars.

Though my single most favorite is Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.

Join the club, we seem to have many TTYD lovers here.

Although I don't own a copy myself, my favorite would be Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. I played the game through when I visited my friend and even got on a higher level than he did :p After it went to random recipe fulfilling and badge seeking, I slowly stopped playing it when I went there.

I should have tried to complete the one hundred trials thingie (can't remember the actual name), though. I remember I tried it only once and lost very early.

After TTYD, I'll rank Mario Kart DS as the second best game :p It was the second DS game I bought (I have only WarioWare: Touched, Mario Kart DS and Pokémon Platinum as of now).

this, the Banzai Bills in the first level had me and my sister laughing so hard, I liked Super Princess Peach mostly due to all the old SMW enemies that show up, (Torpedo Ted, Fishing Boo, etc)

About TTYD, one of the reasons i loved it was that it truly presented a challenge at points, the different chapters all had their "gimmicks" and settings that made them all different and interesting.
Super Paper Mario was more repetitive and, at least to me, pretty easy.

I'd say any Mario game that involves collecting a Star shaped object, and has a ton of levels. The star shaped objects? You collect 120 normally.

Yoshi's Island and Wario Land 2 (if that counts) are probably my favourites. Super Mario Bros. 2 (Doki Doki Panic, not Lost Levels) may come in third. Super Mario World has the best movement/physics engine out of any Mario platformer for me, but the badly balanced items and rather lackluster level design harm it a lot. The Game Boy Adance remake only made it even more cheesy instead of fixing anything.

The 3D games are the most fun to watch someone else play, but I don't like playing them myself.
