NIWA Discussion / Re: Suggestions

just the staff board will be, we'll have to create a forum for WiKirby staff discussions. We're the first wiki without a regular discussion home and we were using a hidden board here. We'll have something up on Wikirby in a separate domain or something soon.

Welcome Firefly! Thanks for assisting! The link I placed on Wikipedia only lasted 2 days or so but if you joined Wikirby, Wars Wiki, and NIWA because of it, then I'd say it was very worthwhile for me placing it there.

A guy removed it until we are much more substantial, unfortunately it seems he's judging wikis on their article count alone. But I guess I have to give them what they want. If all goes well, one day we won't even have to be the ones to put the link in Wikipedia.

I can verify that would never happen. The WiKirby staff board is being ushered out of here. I expect activity to drop when it happens since 2 of the most active people in here wouldn't have mod rights anymore. Nothing I can do about it really, I was surprised to see the messages myself. So if a minor staff board isn't allowed, then a larger forum merger certainly wouldn't be.

I think people can start off with anything to get the ball moving. If they (you) aren't comfortable taking a financial risk, then feel free to begin at one of those free sites. If you can control your own content and take it with you later, then it shouldn't be a problem. Wikia doesn't allow that-so that's a bad place to start.

This of course would be postponing the financial investment to the site until NIWA membership is sought. I for one would only vote in sites that are being hosted and the owners having to pay for it. Without that factor, it's too cheap and is likely to be abandoned later. When the owner(s) have to put in money from their pockets-they'll probably take more of an interest in the project. I do recommend you purchase whatever domain name you want as soon as you can to make sure no one else does later and you have to settle for a less desired name.

Now if you are meaning that your home pc has the capabilities to actually host the site and you have the technical expertise to keep it going, then that's even better than paying someone imo.

I'm using that one, it's the standard sized affiliate button, you can color it whatever to fit your site.

Zaniness is awesome! I started reworking the article for the game to have a themed wording style.

Kirby's Epic Yarn Read it or knot!

Nintendo Gaming / Heads up!
June 05, 2010, 11:05:54 PM
You probably already know from Nintendo Emails, but The Club Nintendo "year" is close to its end June30th. But here's an idea for you all: When you fill out the surveys for points, mention NIWA member wikis as much as possible. We did this for Zelda Wiki.org before Spirit Tracks was released, and (it might not be related, but who knows) sometime after the release we got that magazine mention/referral.

Some of the questions are like:

Why did you purchase this game:
and we wrote in stuff like:
[] Other: To document everything about in on Zelda Wiki.org

What did you least like about this game?

Too many unnamed enemies and characters which makes creating the Zelda Wiki.org encyclopedia much more difficult.

For some of the surveys I just completed, I mentioned WiKirby even though Picross 3D is unrelated :p

I doubt I'm the only one that plays other Nintendo games. See this article! I couldn't have made that article on any of our member wikis. There may be some trivia to add to so far only Zelda Wiki, but since I can't find the rest of the puzzles in that branch yet, it may not manifest to anything at all.

But if the rest of the Hero's Shield, Hero's Sword, and Hero's Boots puzzles continue to feel Zeldaish and actually contain a dead give away that it's a reference, then I can add the trivia to the cameos page and link to GameHiker for a full article instead of Wikipedia. Last I checked the GameHiker article I wrote beat the snot out of the Wikipedia one!

yeah, when someone gives you odds they are multipliers to the dollars bet. So if you're given 10-1 against you (like Saints vs Colts 09 :D) you bet X, and win 10X. If you lose, you only lose what you bet. Usually the spread on the odds aren't that high, I've only seen things in the decimal ranges. I've never gambled tho. My friend and I once charted out the odds of rolling a 7 on a pair of dice and there are more possibilities to roll 7 than any other number (6&1, 5&2, 4&3) compared to rolling a 5 (4&1, 2&3). Furthermore, :p no matter what the first dice rolls to, there's still a chance to have a total of 7 since it's the only number that isn't eliminated by any other number ex: roll a 6 and you won't have any number lower than 7 total. Roll a 1 and you won't have any total higher than 7 after the second dice is tossed.

Now none of that is important to anything. :P We just wondered why there were differing odds on dice throws. And that's all I know on the matter, trivial useless knowledge shared, I can move on!

put me down for 108 niwa on Wars Wiki with 100000-1 odds against.
#233
yep, that was the schedule all along, I thought I was going to burst with laughter when the niwa bets went down... so as long as no knees are being clubbed, I have no complaints.

Wooot! Welcome aboard guys, I'll have news on WiKirby ASAP!

I definitely want to talk to them, it seems they would make a good addition to the NIWA resource pool. There's a bit of overlap in content coverage, I just browsed their Zelda stuff, but most of it is characters and games. ZW covers everything else like places, items, weapons, etc. Of course if they are willing to join us I wouldn't request they purge those pages or anything. I think a sweet deal could be made, for instance: to just link to ZW in Zelda articles, and ZW link to them for anything that's currently being linked to Wikipedia. That way everybody keeps their content and is happy.

It seems this is very fitting of the description of a potpourri wiki we discussed which would cover EVERY Nintendo game, (Nintendo as a publisher, not as in everything playable on a Nintendo system fyi). Of course we all know we offer them a much larger user base and shared technical expertise.

Update: I just sent one of their active staff members an overview of NIWA and my contact details. I figure to talk to them to gauge their interest, and any decision would be made in the private boards here.

Edit2: I unlocked this in case Masamune wants to talk about GameHiker in here.

Link me to the Sonic Wiki in question. If I like 'em, I'll at least ask them to affiliate with WiKirby and share contact details. There's a chance the two wikis could be of assistance to one another.

NIWA Discussion / Awesome!
May 05, 2010, 10:26:29 PM
This is my first non-wiki Site article. The webmasters seem to be great people and I think that if we allow affiliations to the NIWA hub that aren't directly wikis, They should be one of them. I also think we should allow another branch of NIWA affiliates that aren't Nintendo related either. I propose we be prepared to network before the hub site is even up.

Anyway, I'm certain they'd appreciate any congratulations we can bring them.

odd, but if that's what you guys want to do around here :P I think I'll give my niwas away for things done on WiKirby :p
X niwas per 1,000 bytes added to a page
X niwas per new article creation
X niwas per new image upload
And if any of it is copied from Wikia-You LOSE niwas!- to me, which go to my pool to pay others for their work.

NIWA Discussion / Re: Live E3 countdown!
May 03, 2010, 02:21:00 PM
I've got my hopes up for an all new final boss in the new Zelda game. Ganon's dead in both timelines so it'd be difficult for them to bring him back without the fan base complaining. A new version of Dark Link better happen! And if Vaati returns, I'd accept that.

For some reason I expect to have to list other Zelda game bosses that aren't Ganon: Nightmare, Onox, Veran, & Thunderbird

I also agree I hope they have news on the Kirby Wii game too.
