As for #4, it's debatable, but I think that the spot should go to Pac-Man. You could argue he's not a Nintendo character, but he was on at least one Nintendo platform, and, at least at his height, was virtually synonymous with the term "video game".

With Nintendo games that don't have an English version yet, I'll generally just send a friend who lives in Japan the money, and get him to mail it to me, because he generally buys the same games I do anyway, and it's normally cheaper than ordering it. With a game I can't find in stores, or an American game I'm ordering for whatever reason, I use Amazon. If they're doing a preorder gift, I might order through GameStop, but only if I want what they're giving away with it. I'll aslo occasionally use e-bay, but I try to avoid it whenever possible.

My policy regarding emulators is simple: If the game in question cannot be found for sale within a reasonable distance of my home, cannot be bought for a reasonable price near my home, and cannot be bought on the internet for a reasonable price, then I will use an emulator. Fan made games are the exception, and will always be used on an emulator. An emulator will also be used for games that are only on hard-to-find platforms, such as the CD-i.

I've said this before, but I would like to see NIWA expand into video games in general. With the imminent fall of Wikia, there's too many potentially good non-Nintendo wikis that are about to be orphaned. Then again, my opinion doesn't really matter in this case. If Grand Fuhrer/Kaiser/Emperor/Czar Tacopill(Maxite knows it will happen, at least) wants it that way, it will be that way.

Handhelds are one of the few things I am not extremely destructive with. All of the ones I own are the ones I originally bought, with the exception of a GBA I donated to an old Tech Ed teacher of mine(he took it apart to show his class how it worked). And, other than that one, they all work almost exactly like they did when I first bought them. The GBC's D-pad tends to stick occasionally, but, other than that, the all act like they're brand-new.

Strangely, my brother's been getting harder on them recently. I've never actually seen it, but yesterday he told me that the top screen of his DS fell off. I'm fairly sure he's telling the truth, because the last time I saw his DS, the plastic part of the hinge was completely broken. The top screen was only hanging on by it's wires, and it still worked fine.

Metroid Prime is a First-Person Shooter, but in definition, not necessarily in player-expectations. Most FPS's are much more violent than Nintendo would be interested in persueing.
Violence is hardly what sets Prime apart from FPSs.  (What kind of definition of 'violent' is this, anyway?  Metroid is half about killing stuff.)

I'm fairly sure he meant to say "graphic". And, if he did, he's right. Prime doesn't have nearly as much blood/gore as other FPSs. And yes, half of it is about killing things. But it's the other half that make the difference. Most "real" FPSs revolve almost entirely around shooting random people in the head, and don't even have the puzzle elements Prime.

It probably won't happen, but I'd like to see what Nintendo would do with a military strategy-type game. Something along the lines of Civilization or Age of Empires, but in a Nintendo-ish style.

The first one I probably could have phrased better. I just meant that they respond more to body language and your tone of voice than anything you really say. As long as you don't act or talk like somebody they would target, they'll tend to leave you alone.

As for the second, I probably should have given different examples. I just meant to distract them long enough to get away("What's that behind you?", "Is that the principal?, etc.) It really only works against the extremely stupid type, so it's not often that somebody uses it, but, used properly, it can and does work. It should be farther down on the list. The main reason, it's so high up is that it's the first analogy I thought of, then I didn't think to move it down.

It sounds like you're using the wrong tactic. It's never a good idea to try using logic on people like that; all too often, they're just too stupid to understand you. Treat it like a Pokemon battle. If you're suddenly confronted with a high level Pokemon, you don't try to battle it out right. You use status effects to your advantage.

Your first choice is always Teleport. If possible, leave, preferably before they notice you. If they have Mean Look, Shadow Tag, or Arena Trap, unlike a Pokemon battle, use metronome. Approach a teacher and talk to them. They might not give you much time, but it might just be enough for the bullies to leave. If that's not an option, try Dig or Fly to buy some extra time. Try to join a conversation nearby, to discourage them. If they can't get to you easily, they'll leave.

They respond to physical signs of strength. That means you want to show them that you're strong. The best way to do that is simply to act confident and aggressive around them. If you act like you're going to go rip somebody's face of, they'll stay away from you. To put it in Pokemon terms, use astonish, make them flinch.

You could also try to confuse them. If a predator sees something it doesn't recognize, ninety percent of the time, it will avoid it. Use really big words around them, especially ones that sound like they might be complements. If you're really lucky, they might even start arguing about what the words mean, giving you time to run away. This is a perfect strategy if you know a foreign language. Just speak that language to them, and try to confuse them that way.

Try paralyzing or freezing them. Say something so off topic that they forget what the original topic was. This can be nigh on impossible to pull off, but if it works, it's extremely effective.

When things get desperate, poison them. Say or do something that seems innocent to random passerby, but is very wounding to them. This can require some research beforehand, but is very useful if you know what you're doing.

One thing you never want to do is to try to burn them. They have Flash Fire, so that will only make them angrier and give them more power.

There are two things you want to have: versatility and the ability to improvise. Have all of these, and more, if you can think of them, ready to use whenever you might need them, and learn how to adapt them to the situation. It might sound silly, but practicing this can be a very good thing.

I've only ever played Wand of Gamelon, but I don't think it's as bad as everybody would have you think.

That said, it does have its bad points:

The controls were badly designed. No, scratch that, the Cd-I controller was badly designed. For those of you who've never seen one, imagine a Wii Nunchuk. Now flatten it out, and take away its ability to sense motion, its control stick, and it's rumble feature. Place a d-pad where the control stick went. In the center of the d-pad, put a small, round, easy-to accidentally press button. On either side of the d-pad, put two long buttons lengthwise. Below the d-pad there is the start button, select button, etc. The thing is uncomfortable to hold, and I deny that it is even possible to press the button on its thumb side while still using the d-pad without having multiple thumbs. Fortunately, there is also an alternate controller that is, for all intents and purposes, exactly the same as the Genesis controller.

The cutscenes, while not necessarily "bad", were definitely animated strangely.

The voice acting was possibly one of the worst aspects of the game. I have seriously wondered if they pulled random people off the street to do it. That said, it has voice acting, which is more than any cannon Zelda game can say, unless you count one-word phrases like "Hey!", "Listen!", and "Oooh!".

It's very minor, but it is impossible to jump above the level of the screen. While not a huge factor for most of the time, it did make for some very bad times in certain dungeons.

The boss fights were simply horribly designed. Not only were the items you needed to defeat the bosses in completely separate areas from the bosses themselves, but the game gave almost no hints whatsoever as to which item was required to beat each boss. The player, essentially, has to guess which item to use. And if you do manage to pick the right item, you throw it at the boss, and(if you didn't miss[if you did miss, you are ****ed]) are reward with an animation showing the boss in question dying, and one or more new areas being unlocked.


All in all, though, I can't really say it's a horrible game.  It's certainly not as bad as some games made by much more successful companies. I don't want to embarrass them, so let's just say that the game's protagonist is a man who's just super, really.

Over all, I give Wand of Gamelon 4/10, ten being the highest. And that's not so bad, when you consider I gave that the game about the super man(I cannot possibly be any less subtle. If you still can't tell what I'm talking about, go look up the top ten worst video games. I'm sure it's there. If that didn't work, go grow an inductive reasoning gland.) 1/10.

That's just a typo. I meant to say "This is likely a coincidence..." My keyboard tends to have random buttons stick for short periods of time, for some weird reason.

"Gerudo" seems to come from "Garuda", a Hindu/Buddhist deity that is either depicted as part human/part bird or as a bird(note the beak-like noses).

In Wind Waker, a fishman says that "chu-chu" is the sound you make when you kiss somebody.

"ReDead" is likely a pun on "undead".

"Zelda" is Yiddish for "lucky", which is ironic, when you consider that she is kidnapped in every single game she appears in(unless you count Wand of Gamelon).

"Link" is a reference to the fact the he is the link between the player and the game.

"Cucco" is an informal word for "insane", as well as being a sound a chicken makes and a bird in its own right.

"Lokomo" is a pun on either "locomotive" or "locomotion", both of which refer to trains.

I'm not even going to try to guess. Thirteen months isn't all that long, in perspective, but it's still a significant amount of time, from a wiki's perspective. It'll probably have at least 80% of the Nintendo franchises, but it's completely possible that NIWA will have expanded into video games in general by then.

I've decided to wait until it gets translated before trying to buy it again.  Or, if they take too long for that, I can pick it up when I go to Tokyo next summer.
