Nintendo Wars Archived Discussion / Re: Please can we close this?
« on: February 10, 2013, 10:59:28 AM »
Oh, right, you mean the whole Wars subforum, not just this archived bit.  Yeah, I had forgotten this was moved elsewhere.

So, problem is, the link from the main page links to this subforum, completely bypassing the 'redirect' which is actually just a link in the subforum's comment.  I don't believe the link should be removed entirely, but made into an actual redirect to the wiki's forums.  If we do this, though, the archive becomes inaccessible - does that matter?  Could all archives be moved elsewhere, or something?  (BTW, I noticed the DK link was to the wiki, not to their forums, so I fixed it.)

(I was trying to find the topic where this was organised, but I failed.)

I can't even see it listed on the home page.

I recently played through Gish - I've had it quite a while, but got stuck at some point, and I recently learned it has controller support, making it easier.  Other than that, I played through Rochard in a few days before that, and I'm still playing Dustforce every now and then.

It seems that most, but not all, of the navigation templates pass the name parameter to {{Tab}}, and you've just been lucky enough not to have any pages with two templates that don't do this.  Any pages in particular you would expect to be broken?

26
The way {{FP-Rotation}} achieves #1 is by setting a fixed height on the text body.  This is actually a bad idea, because the content is allowed to overflow this box, but elements below will not be moved down.  So if I make my browser window small enough (< 1160px), the text of article 1 flows into the 'Vote...' link.

(This can be worked around by increasing the 200px set in the template a little, since the main page has a minimum size.)

Your problem in #1 is that you want them all to have the same height.  This is easy: [[File:<filename>|x270px]], for example, will display an image at 270px high.  If you want to restrict the image's height to its natural size, so that raster images don't get scaled up and look blurry, pass frameless: [[File:<filename>|frameless|x270px]].

I don't get why {{FA-Tab}} and {{FP-Tab}} don't just use {{Tab}}, but okay.  You get #2 because these define identifiers used by the JavaScript, but they're both set to 'tab': {{#vardefine:name|{{{name|tab}}}}}.  Just change 'tab' in that to something unique for each of those templates.  Better yet, use {{Tab}} and pass the name parameter to that.

Wow, I didn't know Touhou was so popular.  I looked around the English wiki, and it looks great - I would be all for affiliation.

(Wait, no Japanese wiki?)

What seems to be the biggest hinderence, is very few people have server access, none of which are active on the wiki and I am not sure if they are following the N Wiki Board here on the forums.

You can always contact me for server things.  I should see any post here within a few days, I get e-mails for every user talk edit at wikis I'm a member of, I think I get e-mails for PMs here, and I'm often in the Pikipedia and NIWA IRC channels.

As for the topic: Pikipedia is getting edits on most days - sometimes not very many, but a 4-day RC listing is rarely empty.  The IRC channel's fairly active, so people are around.

Dustforce.

Dustforce Dustforce Dustforce.

It's great (and surprisingly hard to type).

Oh, I didn't get that from the way you worded it.  Sounds sensible.

I don't see much difference.  They both link to each other, and people are just as likely to have an account if they click that link as not.

Nice work getting this set up.  I hope you get a good community growing around it.

I guess it just depends how the thing creating them works.  Maybe it does a few days of account-creating on various sites, then starts spamming with them.

Don't question the logic of spammers.

If it's not a pie button, I think you should make it one.

Is that admin the server owner, then (Maxite, apparently)?  To fix the 'at the expense of driving off real users (by way of flooding the Recent Changes list with endless deletions and blockings)', just do all the blocks and deletions using a bot account, then they won't show up in RC by default.

Until you have server access, I don't think there's much you can do.  Perhaps putting together a bot to fight it off automatically would make things easier, though it's a little ambitious...

While I was poking around, I made an account and noticed a couple of things:
  • The link to the captcha help page from the create account page doesn't work.
  • When you're logged in, the logo is over your user page link, so you can't click it (easiest way is to click on talk, drag off and release to avoid following it, then shift-tab, enter).  This happens for a browser width around 1250px and below for me.

(and possibly edit)

Don't you normally have to have a number of edits to be autoconfirmed?

Strange, this is the first I've heard of this - I would have thought someone would have posted about it here, so people who could help would be able to.  I'm glad it seems like it's under control, though, and I hope it gets sorted out quickly.
