Nintendo 3DS
« on: June 15, 2010, 01:37:37 AM »
So... Some weeks ago Nintendo announced this new handheld device which will have 3D without the need of lenses.

What do you think? WIll you get it? Will Nintendo make the DS and DSi aside?

I might get it. I have trouble using 3D Glasses, being i'm near-sighted, so to be able to do it without glasses, would be nice.

As for pushing aside the DS(i), i wonder if the alternative is Nintendo trying the "Third Pillar" Strategy again. I doubt it, as that didn't really work out with the DS-Line and the GB-Line; but that was just one time. So, this time might be better?

I'll end up getting it eventually. I'll still be using the DS, though, because the 3DS doesn't have a GBA slot.
As a form of protest, I refuse to make a signature...

Dude, that thing's amazing, totally getting one. I'll still need my DS Lite for Pokemon though... It would be nice if they remade Pokemon 3rd gen for 3DS, that'd be awesome.

the 3DS is probably 128 bit, since the DS is 64bit, and the Gameboy before it was 32bit, so the 3DS will probably contain some remakes of GameCube games.

I had seen that it will be 128bit, but I can't find the source

It's around somewhere....but the bit-descriptions of a system become out-of-use after 64.

Speaking of the bits, I'm willing to bet that it is 128. I've noticed a pattern. The handhelds were about a couple generations behind the consoles.
GBC was a lot like the NES, GBA was the SNES, DS was the N64, and logically as the pattern follows the 3DS will be like the GameCube. Remakes of games on the consoles did appear first in the respective handhelds.

Another pattern that I've seen since the GBA. You have the initial handheld, then you have an ungraded version which is a large improvement over the original, and then you put in a third version which is for the most part just a casual pleaser with extra features that are basically pointless for gaming as well as removing important features, mostly for squeezing a bit more money out of the line before releasing the next one.  So that's GBA/GBA SP/GBm  and DS/DS lite/ DSi , both removing the backward compatibility in the third version. The micro removed the connectivity to the GCN, and the DSi had really poorly made L and R buttons that failed for a lot of people.   So if that pattern holds, then we should expect an upgraded 3DS before too long, and then a smaller, sleeker version with improved features, and then a third version with gimmicky extra features as well as reduced playability of the system.   I did see that the 3DS more closely looks like the original DS and not the DS lite.

AHH That reminds me that I might miss out on a better version of the system. :(

It contains a tilt motion sensor simmilar to the iPod/iPhone, and the Wii Remote, and will feature a virtual console of Gameboy & GB Color games, in addition to simple classic games, (I'm guessing, Puzzle League, NES, and a few simple GBA/SNES/Sega platformers)
I hope Original Gameboy games are colorized, with an option to switch between colorized versions, and original color palettes.  With wirless Multiplayer for all Multiplayer games.

They also confirmed a "Mii Studio" to create, & edit Miis,
given the name, I'm guessing You can alter the Mii's appearance even more, and extra data will be unused when Miis are transfered to a Wii.

I read somewhere it takes 3D video as well, but it might just be 2D video with 3D pics, I don't know.

They're also doing GBA games, and FRLG have been confirmed. This is so a must-buy but it's really expensive. Might wait a bit before I get it.
I blame the economy.
