Urm, Sunflora?

And I think the answer to the question is Loudred, not Chatot.

This Pokémon's name was originally going to be "Ness"

Well, all three of those Pokémon make loud noises...anyways, the sun stone one was what ruled out Sunflora and made the answer Solrock :)

Anyways, I'm not going to be rude and say "Cloyster" here - Shelgon!

Staryu/Starmie.

This species was originally known as the name of the main character in another Nintendo game.

Please give me internets! So much less bulkier than those eggs.

Depends on what you mean. For similar body structure/looks, see Jigglypuff. For abilities, see Ditto.

A sighting of this pokemon is often followed by a disaster.

In a deleted scene of Austin Powers in Goldmember, a person in a costume of this Pokémon can be seen dancing.
