Realistic guess: most of the new characters in a hypothetical fourth Smash will be from the set of Assist Trophies. (Likely starting with Isaac, Waluigi, Goroh, Shadow (assuming SEGA goes along with the idea again), etc.

call of duty finest hour,2:big red one, 3, modern warfare 1, and world at war, and black ops have appered on nintendo consles + tony hawk's underground 2 has a soldier from finest hour.

They still wouldn't realistically qualify though. Of the two "external" characters so far, Snake originated on the NES, and Sonic appeared alongside Mario in the Olympic Games... games. :P Call of Duty has done neither.

Anyway, I agree with Miles; the Assist Trophies are the most likely newcomers.

Chun Li qualifies because she is on the Wii Shop Virtual Console, she will most likely appear in Street Fighter 3D, and she is the Queen (Princess?) of the Fighting game genre, with an entire movie about her origin "Street Fighter- Legend of Chun Li".
If Nintendo's going to add a third party Female, it can only be her!

I never thought about it, but Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, and Goofy all qualify for third-party characters that could be in the next SSB, don't they?
