Handheld care
« on: November 27, 2010, 07:13:30 AM »
How have you treated your handheld systems? When I had my original DS, I:

-Dropped it many times
-Scratched virtually all of the paint off of it
-Broke the hinge by slamming it in a drawer
-Used a screwdriver when I lost my stylus
-Cracked the upper screen
-Made it unable to go into sleep mode
-Lost the B, L, and Select buttons
-Broke an entire chunk off of the top
-Spilled Dr. Pepper on it

And yet it still functions.
I blame the economy.

I'm actually fairly gentle with my handhelds, I try to be really careful with them. I just have terrible luck with them, especially my DSes.

Like my first one's Wi-Fi was pure evil and would almost never work...
Second one's touchscreen got really screwed up, and calibration wouldn't work...
Third one got a broken hinge and then when it was sent back, the R button wouldn't work >_> froze a lot too
And then my fourth one got a broken hinge as well, but it's all okay now.

My DSi has an iffy L button, if I recall, but it's not much of a problem. I haven't had a problem in a pretty long while, though, come to think of it. *knocks on some wood*

* My L Button on my Original DS stopped working mysteriously. And then a few months to a year later, the battery-life mysteriously dropped.
* My GBASP's Shoulder buttons wore out
* My Original Game Boy's Volume Scroll Thingy is pushed all the way into the machine.

Don't know if it's me, or i purchase poor products.....

I usually try to look after my handhelds, but some problems (such as younger siblings :P) are unavoidable. Also, my Game Boy Pocket got stolen when I was in Australia a few years ago. :( Although I had just gotten a new Game Boy Color, so it wasn't too bad.

My DS Lite's L and R buttons rarely work, and I have to blow into them to get them to work (thanks internet!) But I've gotten reluctant, because my sister has had Mononucleosis for a while and I don't want to get it...

Anyway, it's pretty scratched, and probably very dirty, but it still works fine. Sometimes Phoenix Wright will glitch up. As for my silver SP, it has tons of scratches and I even got sand in that part between the screen and the button part, but it still works perfectly fine.

Over the course of many years, the three DS's between me and my brothers have suffered much:

1) My very first DS, white, has it's right screen-holder-thing off due to a drop. Yeah. Heh. Top screen DID work for a little while after, but right now it's barely holding on by a few wires on the left hinge. I still use the fully functioning bottom screen for brighter GBA experience.

2) SECOND black & blue colored DS suffers the same fate.  :-X

3) The only "good" DS, my brother's, is occasionally lost or dropped, but it survives to this day. (for now...)

PSP: Dropped a few times, scratched but alive.

2 GBAs: Sometimes lost.

Other technical things you hold in your hand and carry with you:

Old Razor cell phone: Droppings...

Current phone: Droppings, got a scratch or two running along the screen there.

iPod Nano: Drops occasionally. Still alive, slightly dented (but why the heck is the song  "From Heads Unworthy" showing up as "From Heads University"?  :-\ )

ALL OF THE ABOVE: Get eaten by couch.

NONE OF THE ABOVE: Are truly "safe". :police:   :eekdance:    :police:

I'm gentle with every other one of my handhelds, just not the DS. My DSI has a few scratches and the L and R buttons won't work worth a crap, my GBA SP is in almost mint condition, and my Game & Watches are kept in a box with bubble wrap since I never opened them, I'm gonna sell them when they're worth something. Again, just not that DS. *deedle*

Handhelds are one of the few things I am not extremely destructive with. All of the ones I own are the ones I originally bought, with the exception of a GBA I donated to an old Tech Ed teacher of mine(he took it apart to show his class how it worked). And, other than that one, they all work almost exactly like they did when I first bought them. The GBC's D-pad tends to stick occasionally, but, other than that, the all act like they're brand-new.

Strangely, my brother's been getting harder on them recently. I've never actually seen it, but yesterday he told me that the top screen of his DS fell off. I'm fairly sure he's telling the truth, because the last time I saw his DS, the plastic part of the hinge was completely broken. The top screen was only hanging on by it's wires, and it still worked fine.
As a form of protest, I refuse to make a signature...

I don't think anything's really happened to any of my handhelds, tbh, besides some scratches on the screens of the older ones. Oh, the battery cover of my GBA is broken, but I taped it on because I hate naked battery covers.

I try to take good care of my stuff ;__;

I generally take good care of my consoles, but my DS Lite goes funny sometimes. If I bend the screen up, I get a strange red over my top screen, and the R-button is a bit loose because of a wrist strap I attached (when it goes over your wrist, it would be pushing the R-button down).

I take care of my handhelds. My Nintendo DS Lite has lasted me for several years, and the only obvious damage is a single dead pixel on the touch screen. I have dropped it a few times, but I do try to keep care of it.

The screen cracked on my original DS after both hinges broke. I then snapped it totally in half.

It fell on the floor when open. Twice. Each time, a hinge broke. The second time made the screen crack and all the liquid (I forgot what it is called exactly) came out.

Although, I'm curious what is the liquid is called, now.

My DS snapped in half too, but was fixed, now just held together by tape.

Please give me internets! So much less bulkier than those eggs.
