Netflix/Comcast On Demand for 3DS
« on: December 27, 2010, 09:44:13 PM »
Disney, Dreamworks, & WB, are making 3D movies for the 3DS,

But now, Netflix has announced that they are comming to 3DS as well,
...Do you think that the Netflix for 3DS should send a 3DS card for Storing up to two 3D movies & 5 one hr epidodes temporarily for one systems' exclusive use.  (I think they'd include clock & system checks for clock changers, & system switchers)

Update: I think Comcast could do the same with their on demand, like that iPad app they released that allows you to watch on demand Movies durring your bathroom breaks.

(Ewww!....)

I'll vote for Avatar since it's the only movie I thought looked good in 3D, but otherwise I'm not going to buy any movies for the 3DS. My gaming consoles are for games only!

He was replacing parts of my text with text of his own, so I'll go with "Yes, he was."

You can make madlibs from any text that is presented. They don't have to be prepared just for the purpose.

When did they announce this?

Nintendo officially announced at the 2011 Game Developers Conference (GDC) that Netflix is coming to the Nintendo 3DS during the summer - you can currently watch the entire keynote on the Nintendo Channel, or simply click here.

I'll vote for Avatar since it's the only movie I thought looked good in 3D, but otherwise I'm not going to buy any movies for the 3DS. My gaming consoles are for games only!

I don't believe you need to worry about that. Avatar was released by 20th Century Fox. Besides, I doubt most people would want to see a ridiculously acclaimed title such as Avatar on a small 3DS screen, even if it is a relatively cheap way of seeing it in 3D at home. Additionally, Avatar is not a suitable title for the little kiddies.

Nobody ever believed me when I told them that if you make a collection of information of everything Nintendo, you'll get a wiki that is amazingly the size of a small, but highly-developed Wikipedia!

A lot of games are not suitable for young children either, but Nintendo has released games like that as well (Twilight Princess being rated T, for example). So long as it isn't rated AO (or NC-17 for movies), I don't think Nintendo would hold too much objection to it being released on their 3DS.

Frankly, Netflix isn't a service that is targetted at kids. It's targetted towards adults--or people with credit cards, which is almost exclusively a category reserved for people old enough to have a job.

As far as what people want to see, there is a huge market for mobile movies. Yes, the movies will be of absolutely terrible quality compared to watching them on a good old fashioned TV, but since my livingroom TV isn't something I want to bring with me on a road trip, a 3DS will make for a reasonable alternative.

Netflix's primary target is adults, but it isn't a pay-per-rental service, if this is what anyone is thinking. For the whatever-per-month you pay, you can have one to three dvds or blue-rays along with as many online episodes and movies as you want (from the list of such pieces based on individual deals they have with other companies).

For example, a limited list from my Family's Account includes:
Lois and Clark: the New Adventures of Superman:Season 4
City of Angels
Ghost in the Shell: 2nd Gig: Individual 11
Muppets from Space
Inspector Gadgets Last Case
Ghostbuster's 2
Look Who's Talking Now
Serentiy
Roswell: Season 1
The X-Files: Season 1
30 Days: Season 1
My Name is Earl: Season 1
Tears of the Sun
Waterworld
Sliders: Season 3
The Karate Kid
Buffy the Vampire Slayer:Season 1
Buffy the Vampire Slayer:Season 2
Rosewell:Season 2
Fame
Dr. Who: Season 1
Planent 51
Dollhouse: Season 1
The Iron Giant
Big
Old Dogs
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
Robin Hood: Men in Tights
Stargate SG-1:Season 1
Anastashia
Big Fat Liar
The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!

Wait a second. Netflix's service can actually stream 3D movies? No, I don't think that is possible! Well, not by current household technology, at least. Netflix's streaming service was made primarily for PCs before they were added to the video game consoles. You can use the same Netflix account on your computer to run Netflix on any of the supported consoles. So far, I don't think Netflix can stream 3D movies. They may possibly rent you physical 3D movie Blu-ray discs, but I doubt their streaming service actually has any 3D support. Frankly, even if they did, that may surely increase the price of your account's monthly bill by a lot!

I'm thinking maybe Nintendo has a plan to present 3D movies through some other independent method, and it has nothing to do with Netflix whatsoever! In fact, this means Nintendo can distribute 3D movies to all countries, as Netflix's services are limited to the United States and Canada only! I'm pretty sure Japan wants to have 3D movies somehow, and it won't happen via Netflix, even if that were possible, unless Netflix decides to expand their services globally, but I really doubt that can happen anyway.

The thing about Netflix coming to the Nintendo 3DS is merely a matter of convenience, as the Nintendo 3DS is much easier to carry than most laptops. Additionally, it said you can connect your Wii with your Nintendo 3DS in a way where you are watching a movie on the 3DS, and then you can pause it at the service before continuing watching the same movie on your TV via Wii from the very same point where you left it off on the 3DS! Also, keep in mind about the fact that Nintendo of America made a deal with AT&T to allow free access to over 10,000 Wi-Fi hotspots in the United States via the Nintendo 3DS! I guess, in a way, that seems to be a cheap replacement for the lack of 3G connection in the Nintendo 3DS.
