The Lounge / Status update on some sites
« on: February 18, 2014, 12:13:23 AM »
As some of you may have noticed, certain sites have been offline since last week. What happened to those sites, and more the server overall, is this:

Our MySQL engine died.

Now, this happened to be around the time we were also thinking about getting a larger machine, and were going to also work with the sites to reduce their respective server load.

the combination of all this, tied with recommendation for a faster (and more powerful) server, has kept the sites offline until we have everything set up.

I apologize for the delay in getting these back up. When they are back, they will be loading and running faster than before, not to mention, be more stable.

The sites affected by this include: Lylat Wiki, WiKirby, Fire Emblem Wiki, SEIWA Network, Wikibound, Zelda Sanctuary Network and Tales of Lanschilandia.

Please stay tuned to this thread, and we will keep you updated as soon as we have information.

NintendoWiki discussion / NintendoWiki Coverage and Scope - Hardware thread
« on: December 02, 2013, 01:23:32 AM »
This thread is about discussing Nintendo's hardware. For the main thread and other topics, please see this main thread.

To start this topic off, I have a few questions:
 • What should be in the infoboxes, navigation templates and others?
 • What sections should be in all hardware articles and what should be in just consoles, just accessories, etc.?
 • What lists, comparisons and categories would be helpful?

Some related pages:
Technical Details, Console Categoy, Accessories Category.

NintendoWiki discussion / NintendoWiki Coverage and Scope - main thread
« on: October 06, 2013, 01:17:40 AM »
It has long been debated and discussed exactly what NintendoWiki covers, and how far in depth that coverage goes.

so, I am putting it out on the table (metaphorically) so we can finally decide what should be covered, what shouldn't, etc.

You are free to bring up any idea for a coverage topic, but don't go too far in depth on it. If you feel something shouldn't be covered (either already talked about or not), feel free to bring it up.

Once a coverage topic has been thoroughly discussed and approved through consensus, please start a new thread on that topic. Feel free to discuss navigation templates, lists, article structures, etc. about that topic.

To start this off, I am going to up my proposed Coverage and Scope that I wrote a few years ago.

To help this along, I have been putting together a table that shows a "level" of how important/approved/etc. a coverage policy/topic/etc. is. (sorry, this is a complicated matter :P) Please check it out here.

NintendoWiki discussion / What should happen with the Metroid page?
« on: August 26, 2013, 02:05:52 AM »
I've been changing the Classic NES series links, to be the title of the Game itself, sans prefix, and show the prefix+title as the visible text in some cases, or just the prefix in others.

At the same time, Metroid currently redirects to the series page, instead of to the first game.

so, when I put Classic NES Series:Metroid, it sends me to the series, and Classic NES Series: Metroid is a double redirect.

the ideas of how I can fix this so far, is:
1. change Metroid and Classic NES Series:Metroid to a redirect to Metroid (game)
2. have the links of the Classic NES Series to the (game) article, as the original Donkey Kong game of this series is.
3. set up Metroid as a disambiguation page, like this Pikmin Disambiguation Page

So, what is your opinion on the matter? should we form one or more standardizations out of this problem?

NintendoWiki discussion / Documentation Matters
« on: August 23, 2013, 02:10:58 AM »
It has been brought to my attention that the documentation pages of N Wiki do not follow a standard format, nor a standard on if it is on the same page or not. So, upon the recommendation of Moydow, we are asking the community for input and a vote in the topic.

the vote is mainly to decide if all documentation of a template should be on the same page or different page from the template itself; but this thread can expand beyond it.

Reasons for Separate Pages
 • Keeps the documentation separated from the template itself
 • When one is updated, the other isn't affected. For example,  if one were to update the documentation of  Game Infobox in a separate page, then would not signal the 349 Transcluse pages to be cache purged.

Reasons Against
 • No Excessive Amount of /doc pages on Special:WantedTempaltes
 • No Additional Template Pages, for ones that only get transcluded once.

Thank you all for your time,
tacopill.

Other Media / Which Color Lantern are you??
« on: March 03, 2013, 04:45:07 PM »
note: I haven't read the comics, so I am not claiming to be an expert. Just merely a curious person, who enjoy watching Comic-based adaptions, reading wikis on the franchises, etc.

In the DC Universe, there exists 7 energies that are generated by the emotions of all sentient life forms. These emotions provide fuel that chosen individuals can wield through power rings and stored in power batteries, often shaped as lanterns.

So which energy do you wiled?

Here is a quiz one can use to find out which color one are.

if interested, read up on the different colors, here and here.

NintendoWiki discussion / General Rules - READ ME FIRST!
« on: February 22, 2013, 12:48:45 AM »
Hello and welcome to the NintendoWiki board.

This Board is mainly about the NintendoWiki, its articles, templates, etc. It is a place to:
 • discuss improvements to the wiki,
 • discuss possible big changes to its content, article structures, etc.
 • ask for the installation of Javascript, CSS, Extensions, etc.
 • ask how an article should best be formatted
 • ask what should be included or not included
 • and more!

and it is not a:
 • A gaming board (that is here)
 • An introduction board (that is here)
 • A place to ask for help on Wiki formatting (that is here)

The Lounge / Hurricane Relief Effort By Otakus
« on: November 06, 2012, 02:21:20 AM »
hey everyone. As many of us are Otaku, I thought it would be appropriate to put this here.

The Anime Radio station I listen to is doing a drive to help those affected by the hurricane. Please help spread the word, donate to the cause and other stuff for fellow Game-playing people, Anime Watching people and just about everyone else.

If you can't donate, please help spread the word anyway.

Thank you,

The Lounge / Lylat Wiki is seeking help
« on: May 08, 2011, 07:55:09 PM »
With the merger of Lylat Wiki and Arwingpedia nearly complete, and the wiki having content in the actual pages, i thought it was time started improving the wiki internally.

So, i am opening this question to everyone in NIWA: How do you think Lylat Wiki should be improved? In what ways are we lacking in terms of community, content, speed and everything else.

I am open to all suggestions, although i can't guarantee all of them can be used.

I have also started a discussion on this on the wiki, if you are interested in reading or discussing potential ideas on improving the wiki.

So, what do you guys got for me?

Super Smash Bros / New Transformations
« on: February 25, 2011, 12:25:59 AM »
Similar to Samus, Pokemon Trainer, Zelda/Sheik and Kirby, what character transformations would you like to see in future smash bros?

These can be current or past characters, or brand new characters. However, please keep the new characters for the sake of new character, to this thread.

For me, i would like to see Mario transform into Dr. Mario, my favorite clone. What i can't think of, is the manner this would go about.

Would it be an item? Final Smash? Special Move?

Nintendo Gaming / Nintendo vs. Capcom
« on: February 02, 2011, 08:58:09 PM »
Was over at IGN, reading up on the interest article, We Want Nintendo vs. Capcom!!, and this got me thinking, I want it as well!

Of the stuff brought up in the article, i think a hybrid system of Smash Bros.- and the Capcom Vs.-Systems would work best, but i would be open to the possibility of either system being used; with the other company's games coming in as "guests".

Opinions?

The Legend of Zelda Archived Discussion / Mix it up thread
« on: January 30, 2011, 04:32:51 AM »
If you were given the chance, how would you mix up the Legend of Zelda series?

personally, i'd like to see it as an Urban game, with the dungeons being giant skyscrapers, and the overworld being a huge metropolis.

Nintendo Gaming / Release dates.
« on: January 01, 2011, 02:24:19 AM »
Nintendo Wiki needs your help!

We need people to seek out information on Release dates so we can announce them / countdown to them on this page as well as the main page.

These can be release dates for any region in the world, and for any Nintendo System (Wii, NDS, 3DS, any VC's) or even the consoles themselves.

Thank you in advance.
