Mega Man 6 is the sixth main installment in Capcom's Mega Man series, released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in November 1993 in Japan. In North America, the game was released by Nintendo in March 1994, as Capcom had declined to publish the game due to decreasing support of the NES in favor of the SNES. The game would not be released in the PAL region, however, until June 2013, with the game's Virtual Console release for Nintendo 3DS. Mega Man 6 would be the final title in the series to be released for the NES.

Story
After the events of Mega Man 5, the Global Robot Alliance is founded to prevent another robot attack from Dr. Wily. One year later, the First Annual Robot Tournament is held to determine the strongest robot in the world. However, when the tournament is about to begin, a man named "Mr. X", the tournament's sponsor, announces that he was the one manipulating Dr. Wily from the beginning, but no longer needs him as he has reprogrammed eight of the strongest competing robots to take over the world. Mega Man must now defeat the eight robots and stop Mr. X.
Gameplay
The gameplay and structure of Mega Man 6 is similar to that of past Mega Man titles, in that the player must defeat a set of eight robots in order to access the fortress of Mr. X, obtaining their weapons to use in other stages along the way. Features such as the slide and Rush from Mega Man 3 and the charge shot from Mega Man 4 are kept for this game. New features for this game, however, include the Rush Adapters, which allows Rush to combine with Mega Man in two different configurations by defeating certain bosses: Power Mega Man, which can be used to clear larger obstacles, and Jet Mega Man, which gives Mega Man temporary flight. In addition, certain stages have alternate routes which allow the player to fight the boss in a different room and earn one of four circuit boards to obtain the ability to use Beat. Finally introduced in this game is the "Energy Balancer", which automatically refills the weapon with the lowest energy upon collecting extra weapon energy.
