NIWA Discussion / Errors at WikiBound
September 20, 2011, 07:51:40 PM
During the past few days, the Recent Changes page at WikiBound has been inaccessible (though it did momentarily work during a time, but chose to be all malfunctiony again), only displaying this text when attempting to access it:

QuoteA database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:
(SQL query hidden)
from within function "SpecialRecentChanges::doMainQuery". Database returned error "1030: Got error 28 from storage engine (localhost)".

Additionally, I'm also unable to log into my account, as it mentions that I "have cookies disabled", even though I've checked the cookies settings, which appear to be just fine; I'm also able to access other websites that require cookies, so I'm not really sure what all the fuss about that is.

I'd like to know if I'm not the only one experiencing this, and if so, would any admin-like individual care to look into it? :v

No offense, but I do actually think that I'd get mad if they would add Mii as a playable character in the next SSB.

It does already occupy two character spots in Mario Kart Wii. :0

That's some seriously awesome stuff you got there. I myself haven't really gone any further than penciling around some sketches here and there (laziness of learning how those softwares work might contribute to that somewhat).

I do anyhow simply love your drawing of Claus, wonderful texture, I must say. Also, that hairstyle of yours is brutally cozy. Thou shalt have plenty o' kudos.

EarthBound / Mother / Re: Favorite enemy
March 09, 2011, 10:26:07 PM
Even though I fancy the majority of the enemies in the series, I must say that my absolute favourite one is the Men's Room Sign. Gosh, how I laughed during my first encounter with it; I considered it as very random at the time, anyways. I do also think that it's visually cozy with its demented smile and awesome shade of blue, though I was surprised when it tried to brutally kill my team by sending giant balls of spaceness at us - plain rude.

The Smilin' Spheres are also pretty much the greatness, although I hate that explosion thingy they do when you defeat them, which leads to the entire party getting a decent and annoying amount of damage. D:

Yayness, I finally got around to play the english version of Mother 3. Though I beat it within approximately a week when I really wanted the cozy playthrough to last for as long as possible ('twas during vacationish times 'n stuff). I'll probably put my hands on a japanese cartridge sooner or later as I'm not too comfortable with games combined with computers, really (and needs complete Battle Memory u_u).

[spoiler=Z'OH MY GOD MUST SHARE EXPERIENCE]
Yeah. I must say that it was an overall rad and awesome game; a very Motheresque final battle as well. The ending was a bit "D:" though, considering the visual on-going occurrence in the game then, and that the results of it are left unspecified (though it leaves a mysterious use-your-imagination touch to it).

One thing that bugged me a tad though was that the Egg of Light had an entire chapter dedicated to it, but was ultimately forgotten and of little importance along the rest of the story (well, excluding the fellows' second search for it).

The Lounge / Re: Random article story

Radish idea, I'm most certainly in.

After enjoying a sweet victory against the giant, floating, monkey head, Kirby decided to take it easy for a while by initiating a playthrough of DK: King of Swing. To Kirby's surprise, he discovered that he had inserted the wrong cartridge, the opening sequence of Donkey Kong Country had appeared on his screen instead. He didn't mind it at all though, and simply continued by creating a new file on it. He played for hours and didn't stop until he reached a level called Necky Nutmare, where he realized that he in fact was playing the GameBoy Color version. Infuriated as he got, he couldn't resist but having a minor tantrum, which accidently led to him inhaling and swallowing a nearby Orange Bulborb. As random as it seemed, the barren and unpopulated area Kirby was present at now got covered with creatures from the Anglar race. With his newly achieved powers, an unnecessary battle was implied to take place - with a nice K. K. Country tune fittingly playing in the background.

Heh. Hope I didn't make it annoyingly long.

Super Smash Bros / Re: Characters in Next SSB

If being realistic isn't a necessity, my main choice would actually be the Subrosians (avvy might be a tad spoilerish on that one). Having Subrosia as a stage would be utterly awesome as well (but second to impossible, however)!

How my inner monolgue about Subrosians being in SSB is like (I'm not expecting anyone who hasn't played Oracle of Seasons to really grasp any of the logic of it):

Side Special: Now, this may seem a little iffy and visually crappy, but I'm thinking that the Subrosian would pull off a Strange Brothers by doing a quick and well-lengthy run towards the desired direction (thinking of it as Fox's Special Side, except slower). The main effect would be to steal the opponent's current weapon if the player in control of the Subrosian manages to hit anyone (and if the opponent is holding any weapon (btw, if the Subrosian performing this attack also would be holding an item, they'd simply be swapped)), and that it of course also would inflict a certain amount of damage.

Special: Throwing Ore Chunks as projectiles (could be the side special as well). The fact that there are five different types of Ore Chunks in the game fits perfectly; Hard Ore would harm the most, while Fool's Ore would harm the least (perfect, I say).

Down Special: Now, this was a little problematic at first, but my main idea for this is for the Subrosian to, by the help of a shovel, dig up a Fire Pokey from the ground, which will act as a temporary assistant. This would be a reference to the fact that this is the only area in the game where Fire Pokeys can be met by being dug up.

Up Special: This is something which I'm still having a rather tough time with. My present thought about it is for the Subrosian to teleport through two vortexes and by through that gain a decent third jump substitute (could perhaps even be used to get past a platform which normally would be in the way (by teleporting through it)?). This would anyway be a vague reference to the vortexes in the game which are essential to travel back and forth between Subrosia.

Final Smash: Ugh, I just dunno about this one. A volcano randomly popping up and scatter some devastating rocks here and there, perhaps?

I also idealized the "Masked Young Link" for a while before getting to know how popular that one actually was among internetters. ._. I was so proud of thinking though that one so thoroughly..

(I also made some in-text linking in case anyone would be interested in these awesome creatures :3)

Right now I'm mainly trying to play through Color-Changing Tingle's Love Balloon Trip (which is a usually accepted translation of the japanese title) by utilizing the tiny amount of japanese I know. I'm actually considering to play it through entirely once I've increased my vocabulary a little as I don't like to use walkthroughs, and can essentially only judge things from all the visual fluff.

Though I can't help but feel a bit awkward towards all the muscly pics of the 35-year old fellow in green tights, also known as Tingle.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Compilations

I see that someone went a tad eager and optimistic on the Pikmin one, although I'm not necessarily viewing it as a bad thing at all, Pikmin (1) was an overall joyful experience and I must purchase the sequel sooner or later. Though I'm not familiar with any confirmations or rumors on a 3DS one? :0

I'd anyway choose Mother as well because of the current lack of releases (heck, I'm not even able to experience EB on its original console because of that kind of international absence). Star Fox 2 would also be nice to have released as I think playing that game on a keyboard was relatively awkward.

Other Media / Re: What are you reading now?

I read way too little fictional stuff, I mainly read because of school-related studies if anything. Though one of my friends has recommended me to read a book called "Kafka on the Shore", which seems pretty neat from what I've heard.

Manga is something which I read from time to time though (right with ya Aiko). Mainly Nintendo-related stuff (which I wouldn't say is too unpredictable considering joining NIWA and all) which right now mainly consist of Zelda manga books, as those actually were locatable in stores. I've also taken the time to buy some japanese Zelda manga through the webs. And I must say, major lulziness at Link, as he's pure muscles in the ones I bought (at least from what I can visually judge from). Though they're overall comfy and I will hopefully be able to read them once my japanese increases a little.  :D

Oh, hard, admittedly. EarthBound and Mother both had several loveable features. I really liked the graphics used in the first game; even though it only was 8-bit, it really was visual eye-candy in my opinion. Though I always had a thing for Ninten looking like Charlie Brown from his profile, now that was just highly unfitting. รด_o

EarthBound does gain a lot in time spent on making it, as it is much longer and is overall more multifaceted. And even though I'm infatuated with the graphics in that game, I'm in love with the style used in M1 (squares of plain awesomeness, I tell ya). I do however like the fact that so much is unexplained in M1 (which in turn makes me want to buy tons of guides and that sorta stuff).

I'm going to go ahead and say that it's a tie, because EB did actually have quite many terrific surprises and qualities (dakota, blue and whatnot :P). As you probably can see, Mother 3 has yet to appear on my list of games which I've experienced (planning on grabbing hold of the ROM in due time though).

Oh, there are several awesome enemies throughout the series. The Karakoro and Hikkun are examples of two enemies whose overall design I find being very cozy. Though I can think of the mutilation of Hikkun to be a tad too brutal at times.

I've always digged Skull Kid as well. Especially his OoT/MM design, it's just too adorable with its little flute and its sort of friendly withdrawness. :3 They really made me think of Lost Woods as a strange and majorly versatile place during my first visit. Delightful memories.
