that page had a link to the Metroid wikia, and not our wiki, how could this be...

It still has a Wikipedia link for Metroid Prime, I'll go change it (my first ZeldaWiki edit :D) BTW, linking to Metroid Wiki appears to vary between wikis. One has the prefix "meow", haha. ZW uses "mew" (so linking to Metroid Prime is done by typing [[mew:Metroid Prime|Metroid Prime]].)

You are now affiliated with WiKirby! I gotta sleep and work tomorrow, then go to my lil sis's bday dinner, but feel free to pressure someone/anyone/everyone at WiKirby to get you a mainpage announcement.
Done :D

This link will take you to the download page for Apache HTTP server. Make sure to download the MSI installer, because it's easier to install. Overall, it's easier to set up Mediawiki on Windows, because it's mostly all MSI installers right up to setting up MW itself, which is done via your browser.

It can take a lot, or a little explaining. To begin with, you need HTTP server software (Apache, IIS, etc), PHP software, and SQL software (MySQL, PostgreSQL). Also, at least an understanding of the PHP programming language is good. Installing the software all depends on your OS (Windows, Unix, Linux, etc). We'd need to know that before explaining further.

Don't worry about it; I managed to find the problem. It appears the arrows in next and prev page links aren't recognised by WIN1252. I had to edit each one out of the SQL manually. :/ But it works now! :)

That's about my level (for now). Though one problem I couldn't fix was this, which happened when I tried to install Mediawiki 1.16. It's.. long :P but they say you should give every line when reporting errors. I don't have a clue what's wrong, and the one person who did reply didn't really help (tl;dr is just pointless). Anyone here got any ideas?

Guys, I have to say that I'm very happy about this change.

Don't look at me like I'm insane.
You know how fugly it looks. You know how many editors will hate it. It may even drive people from Wikia. I'm seeing this whole thing as a potential boost to NIWA traffic.

Thanks, Wikia! =D
I concur.

FAIL
And just to drive home the fact they don't really care for the fans, the staff don't respond at all to people complaining about the loss of the Monaco skin, because they've customised it so much on their Wikia. Instead they stick a ridiculous "it's not a new skin, it's a new version" answer in an FAQ, that manages to upgrade it all from "fail" to "epic fail".

Wikia: NOT ALLOWED. If they chose to secede from Wikia, and set up their own servers, they may be allowed. Anyway, the plan is either to try and get Smash Wikia to do so, or set up our own.

@smash

On #StrategyWiki on our IRC server, that 'smashes' the local bot. It doesn't do any damage, you just get something like what's in my sig.

Your LocalSettings file appears to be broken. As I write, it is currently 8.20pm UTC, if the time's important. At this time, I am getting this message:
Quote
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '[' in /home/zwneo/starfoxwiki.org/w/LocalSettings.php on line 201
You may be onto this as I write, but I just felt it's important to mention it.

Try this link. It's a guide on StrategyWiki for that area of the game. It's been ages since I played Phantom Hourglass, so I can't remember it clearly.

Seriously, though, what do I do after getting the Courage Spirit and drawing the Triforce on that door in the Ocean Temple?
Which game?

I hoping this goes in the niwa meta-wiki, if it comes to be.
I hope that does happen. It seems like a very good idea.

One of the bureaucrats at StrategyWiki, Ryan Schmidt, wrote something similar in JavaScript. When you click on the Mark as patrolled link, it patrols the edit and automatically moves on to the next unpatrolled edit to that page (when it reaches the end of the line, you get a message 'Done. You may now browse away from the page.') Though it isn't guaranteed to work.

It's on my JS page there under Ajax Patrol: here.
If you want to use it, you'll need to change importScript to importScriptURI... and something else I can't quite remember. Use the full url instead of the SW page name, or something like that. You probably should credit him, with a comment line such as //by Ryan Schmidt. It's the honourable thing to do, I guess. You'll also need to import the top 'Common library of functions' line, and put it at the very top of the JS page.

Sounds like a new page. I see now I wasn't too clear about that. To patrol a new page, click on the link to the page beside the 'N' mark. The mark as patrolled link is at the bottom (the page appears as it does normally). A normal link to the page will not allow you to patrol it.

It isn't supposed to appear in the page history. It appears in Special:Log, in the Patrol log.

Hey guys, got a few questions for you on patrolling.

  • How does patrolling work?
  • How does one patrol an edit?
  • Why do we patrol edits?
  • What happens when i need to patrol an edit, but "marked as patrol" doesn't show up?

(note: i already know some of this information, but i figured i ask certain questions for the sake of those who may read this some time in the future and/or doesn't know how these things work).

  • 1. On Special:RecentChanges, all users with the required rights will see a red exclamation mark (!) beside an un-patrolled edit. They may check the 'diff' of this edit, and patrol it, or take other required actions.

  • 2. Only users with the 'patrol' right may patrol edits. Beside an un-patrolled edit in Special:RecentChanges, these users should see red exclamation marks. To patrol the edit, click the 'diff' button beside this mark. This page highlights the changes made by this edit. Underneath the listings of who made this edit and when is a link: 'Mark as patrolled'. If the edit is not vandalism, or does not need to be fixed, click this link. If it is vandalism, click the 'Rollback' link. If it must be edited, do this before patrolling the edit. New pages have the Mark as patrolled link at the very bottom.

  • 3. Patrolling is a system by which an administrator or patroller may notify other patrollers that a specific edit is of an acceptable quality.

  • 4. In the unlikely event that this may happen, another patroller may have already patrolled the edit. If not, try again.

Administrators and other users with the 'Autopatrol' right automatically have their edits marked as patrolled.

Hope this helps! :mario: If I missed something, please say so below.

I agree fully with that. If there isn't a strong fanbase for a franchise, the wiki more than likely won't draw in visitors, and will fail.
