Why can't you evolve him? Certain moves? I always evolved Pikachu whenever I got the chance, if I used Pikachu at all.

Because of light ball. What makes him particularly viable for endgame in gen IV (I can't remember if light ball was in gen III, i don't think so though) is that this item doubles Pikachu's special attack when held, but if you evolve him to Raichu it doesn't work anymore.

Edit:
Correction! It was in gen III and had the exact same effect.

Edit 2:
Oh my goodness it was in gen II also. Pikachu has been playable forever!

Just as a quick disclaimer there....that's a draft, it might not be the final version of the manifesto. ^^;
Answered my question just fine though  :D

Where did that come from? Archaic, since it looks like you wrote that up, i wonder if you might repost it as a separate thread and sticky it, that way people can both find it quickly and discuss it.

Edit-^
Yeah, What Level 3 said!

Perhaps this is just me, but I am a little confused about the 'meta'-ness of NIWA. Somebody want to start a thread or add a page describing why having an alliance of these wiki sites is advantageous, other than communal members?

This seems like something that might be important to discuss, since from looking at most threads most of what has been touched on thusfar has been "whats your favorite XXXXX" which is all good and well, but isnt much of a more general community draw, if you see what I mean.

I read some interview in which Venomoth was created AFTER Butterfree. Although Venonat DOES look like Butterfree and probably was the prototype pre evolve form of Butterfree....Seriously, why make Venonat so much like Butterfree? It is weird....

I believe that Venomoth was created second because thats the way it ended up, honestly the whole thing is probably just a matter of there being really a lot of common design elements between all the gen I pokemon. What gets me about it though is how similar venonat and butterfree are AND how similar metapod is to venomoth as well - look at the eyes, thorax and the number of horns. If it was just one pairing the argument would be much less convincing.

With regard to Yellow Version... Pikachu is so overused that I don't really have superbly strong feelings in that respect.

You'd think he would be overused since he's the only available one.

Also, I added Pikachu to the poll; he was missing.

I more meant the overused respect in terms that random number 25 is the mascot... main Pokémon character in the anime... etc.

Clefairy was originally going to be the mascot, but the anime made Pikachu so popular (Pikachu IS cute in the anime) so they changed the mascot to Pikachu.
Due to this fame, Pikachu is portrayed as WAY stronger then he is in the Anime and sometimes even the Pokemon Adventures manga. I personally wished Mew was the mascot >< He was also a contender to be the mascot, I believe, since he WAS the first patented Pokemon (before the games even came close to being released o.O)

Anyone notice that Pikachu also seems to get stronger in each generation? He's fairly viable in gen IV, and appropriately you really can't evolve him either if you want him to stay usable.

I liked Dialga :P
I thought it pretty much did it's part well, being the "God of Time" or whatever. I just don't like Palkia's pink tinted skin, it looks ridiculous considering it's size.

Do you see what I mean about them looking stiff though? I can't imagine it bending its neck downward or back, or raising its legs up particularly high. Same goes for Palkia, they just look like thats the only pose they can be in, and the art i have seen seems to confirm that.  Anybody have a counterexample?
Compare how dynamic gen III legendaries #380-#384 are to gen IV legendaries #483-#487. no contest in my mind. I get the feeling they realized that a little though, because Giratina's origin form can run with the best of them.

out of the other gens
Gen I - Charmeleon
Gen II - Heracross
Gen III - Absol

Oh man, Absol is another one who I thought was totally sweet but was begging for an evolution. He should have a cute pre-evo too, hes all set for it really!

Ok, I won't post three in a row! Edit FTW:

Marowak is my fave by far, I cant even stop myself from using him every time i play through again.

Mine is Zangoose! ;D

He is sweet looking, but i really wish he evolved, eh? bigger moveset would be nice too. I always hope theyll retcon him into the zigzagoon line or have him be some non-dark split with sneasel or something. Same goes for Seviper and the other snakes.

Do you use him?

Another well designed bug? Butterfree in my opinion. I like how it had a special move pool that utilises it's ability from Gen 3 onwards (Compound Eyes allows it to have higher accuracy, and many of it's moves are status inducing moves with 55-75% accuracy)
Although his stats are a bit low, that doesn't matter much in terms of design.

Except for this:

I found Treecko real boring, nothing going on with him.
also, am I the only one who thought Quilava was way cooler than Typhlosion?

Seel. Oh god, SEEL. Even the name is uncreative.

The Spheal line gets props for at least being creative in design.
Spheal was from Gen. III and Gen. III sucked.
Aww but its so cute! im a sucker for the round ones though...Oddish and Gible
Im with you guys on the Regi*s though, they were pretty weak. I'm hearing alot of hate for the new gens, but lets not forget some of the weaker Gen Is, namely Jynx and Mr. Mime:

"I'm...just a lady"

"I'm...just a guy"

and also some Gen IVs were terrificly pokemon-y like Honchkrow and Rotom. In general I havent really disliked any gen as a whole, just specific pokemon. Of all the ledgendaries there arent many i like that much after gen I though.

also i must say I really dislike Lopunny, it doesn't even seem like they were trying:

Same goes for Dialga and Palkia. Though honestly i don't get them at all, i just didnt think they looked like pokemon. They dont even really look like they can move.
