Zekrom... Sounds like a Steel-type to me...

Well, not that surprising, since steel is one of the infinity plus one types in the series.

Mario / Re: Is Peach a competent leader?
« on: May 27, 2010, 09:29:51 PM »
Is Peach a competent leader.... hm... one could easily say she isn't....

In the "mainstream" series she doesn't appear to be very bright, letting herself be deceived by whatever poorly disguised plan Bowser comes up with (cake, anyone?). She is just very lucky to have Mario around who fixes almost every problem that arises. Without Mario, the whole kingdom would probably most likely collapse eventually.

However...

In the RPG series, she is usually quite capable and smart. While she still gets kidnapped rigtht and left, she actually manages to do something in these games, plays very important roles, is at points vital for Mario's success, and generally puts her damsel-counterpart from the other games to shame. In the RPG's Peach is actually one of my more favourite characters because of that.

That said the reason for Peach's reputation of being incompetent lies in Shigeru Miyamoto, since he said once in an interview that he is trying to keep Peach's personality at a minimum, thereby effectively turning her into a gullible damsel-in-distress by default to ensure Mario never loses his job.

A quote I once read about that subject springs to mind, that makes a good summary for it. "Mr. Miyamoto likes his women shallow and gullible."

So, to actually say something regarding the actual topic, I'd say "Yes, she is" in the RPGs and "No, she isn't", in most of the other games.

Remember, this is an opinion. Don't end up hurt by anything that does not conform to your views, as everything in there is subjective.

It's what I think, 'scuse me when you don't like hearing it.

You can rejoice, though, since I won't start any major discussion about it. I already know what the outcome would be like.

Kirby Super Star for the SNES. The controls were great. They should implement those ability movesets in a future game or something.

How about a poll?

I don't like the fact that Nintendo recycles the plot of the first part without any explanation, and also that Miyamoto himself made sure to have as little story as possible in the game.

You can hate me for it, but continuity and story means a lot to me.

Ha, I took it over again... but this time answered all the questions with answers I would normally never bubble in:

Just did the same thing. Here is what I got:

Lawful Evil

Quote
A lawful evil villain methodically takes what he wants within the limits of his code of conduct without regard to whom it hurts. He cares about tradition, loyalty, and order, but not about freedom, dignity, or life. He plays by the rules, but without mercy or compassion. He is comfortable in a hierarchy and would like to rule, but he is willing to serve. He condemns others not according to their actions but according to race, religion, homeland, or social rank. He is loath to break laws or promises. This reluctance is partly because of his nature and partly because he depends on order to protect himself from those who oppose him on moral grounds. Some lawful evil villains have particular taboos, such as not killing in cold blood (but having underlings do it) or not letting children come to harm (if it can be helped). They imagine that these compunctions put them above unprincipled villains. The scheming baron who expands his power and exploits his people is lawful evil. Some lawful evil people and creatures are committed to evil with a zeal like that of a crusader committed to good. Beyond being willing to hurt others for their own ends, they take pleasure in spreading evil as an end unto itself. They may also see doing evil as part of a duty to an evil deity or master. Lawful evil is sometimes called "diabolical" because devils are the epitome of lawful evil. Lawful evil is the most dangerous alignment because it represents methodical, intentional, and frequently successful evil.

Spiky Goomba and Paragoomba can be grouped with the regular Goomba. The spike head thing is just a hat, and a Paragoomba is a regular Goomba who somehow aquired wings (never explained in the games). This is further implied by what happens when you stomp a Paragoomba; The wings come off and it becomes a regular Goomba.

Having Ritos and Zoras simultaneously is difficult, but not entirely impossible. The Zelda Manga (OoT) does it, f.e..

Minish would be very difficult, because of its size, and because of the fact that only children can see them.

Hmmmmm

I'd like to forget about Tales of Symphonia II, then not replay it. Does that count?

No, not really.

Keatons are mystical beasts, while fairies are either powerful magical beings or just floating orbs of light, depending on which type of fairy you mean specifically. They probably don't make good playable characters.

Maybe you guys could think about implementing Ritos (those bird-thingies from TWW). Though that might be difficult since the game heavily implies that they evolved from Zoras, and you already have Zoras.

I would post a link to tvtropes.org now, but I cannot afford the risk of trapping any of our users there, because the site has the bad habit to completely submerge your mind and not allow you to leave for hours/days, because there is just so much stuff to read...

Paper Mario 2, Chrono Trigger, Tales of Symphonia, and Majora's Mask...

...basically every game that has a well-developed story which cannot just be erased from mind when replaying it regularly.

Yeah, Feraligatr wasn't as bad as my post above might imply, but seeing how my weird mind works, I need a strong impulse to willingly decide against the Fire starter in each generation. I don't know, I just wouldn't personally prefer it over Typhlosion...

Venusaur was sort of weird... Not so much in the GB games, but especially in Pokémon Stadium, where it seemed to have an.... let's call it an "eye problem"...

It's going to be an easy decision for me. I have no DS, so I won't get to take any of them. :P

The grass starter looks like a Pokèmon I'd chose, while the Water starter looks like a Pokémon I'd avoid and only capture/choose for Pokédex entries. Before making any decision, though, I', gonna wait and see what their evolved forms look like, for it is possible that I like the design of a starter, but not its evolved form (Totodile is a good example here).

Meh, in the end I'll end up with the Fire starter anyway. It's always Fire for me... x_X

i would write it, but as one of the younger sysops (join date-wise) I don't know that much about its overall history like a veteran might do.

I will forward your request to those admins at the Mario Wiki Forums who don't visit this forum frequently.

hurro, I'm new. I've been lurking and watching you speak. I use SMW and Bulbapedia for refrences to draw with, and have a SMWF account (although I'm not usually on it).

Hehehe, I often do exactly the same. x3

Nintendo Gaming / Re: Banjo & Conker

Keep in mind, the offer was made to rare, but it was rare who decided to take it. They sold the controlling stock to Microsoft (without notifying Nintendo), and since Nintendo did not want to share things with Microsoft, the company sold it's share as well.

At least, as far as I know.

The problem is that there seem to be several stories how the company changed owners, and noone really knows which of them is the truth.

I heard that Nintendo sold Rare to Microsoft on purpose, because Rare couldn't keep any deadlines, required more budget Nintendo was willing to offer, and their latest games (at that time) didn't sell well enough (Conker's Bad Fur Day f.e.). So they willingly parted with Rare to get a last bit of profit out of the sinking ship.

...or so I heard.
