SSB Coverage

Remind me again why MarioWiki has an article on Snake...?

I swear, MarioWiki's coverage of Smash will always seem suspect to me.

'Cause it fits their coverage policy (which seems too extensive, but eh, what can you do? :P).

Well, it is under our coverage policy and nobody's complained yet.

I mostly am irritated that other non-NIWA sites, doing interwiki links regarding Smash content, go to MARIOWiki and not SMASHWiki.  And that there have been two Featured Articles of late on MarioWiki from Smash topics.

Sorry for derailing your thread, WiKirbians. :O

I agree, SmashWiki has all that Tier and strategy stuff, their articles are definitely better than ours.

It's really all a matter of popularity. Some people may not think to look beyond the borders of MarioWiki for more specific information. That's why interwiki linking helps, and as far as I can tell, MarioWiki isn't linking to SmashWiki at all on their SSB pages. :(

And yet SmashWiki is linking to MarioWiki on pretty much ALL of our Mario-, Yoshi-, and Wario-related pages.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Remind me again why MarioWiki has an article on Snake...?

I swear, MarioWiki's coverage of Smash will always seem suspect to me.
Because it is an extended part of the Mario series, and we cover everything related to the mario series, that includes Super Smash Bros. And because our Coverage says so, we are a wiki covering the Mario series, and being Nintendo's mascot, they have sub-series, and series related, and cameos and all that. So we cover them all. Even Banjo and Conker. In some way. People have complained, but we aren't changing it

Because it is under our coverage policy, we are not changing our coverage policy just because we joined NIWA.

Would you change it if the MarioWiki Community asked you to?

Yes, but the phrase "the MarioWiki Community" is generally not referring to a few people. On a subject matter like this, I would suppose that if the majority of the community wanted the scope changed, it would be done. The question is: Does the community want it changed?

They don't

Have you (or anyone) asked them?

The reason i ask, is not to intice. Rather, i have a feeling there is at least one member of the Mario Wiki communitunity wondering why the wiki covers Smash Bros. It's one of the "there is alway one in a group" things.

And before anyone thinks or says it: I am not suggesting NIWA come in and decide for them. I am just talking about the possibility for Mario Wiki choosing for itself to change its content policy.

Well, we've had the same coverage policy for several years now and it seems alright. I've thought about adding more coverage, but I don't want to get too crazy.

Frankly, I'm not too sure what the concern is over the broad expanse of MarioWiki's coverage? Is it hindering Smash Wiki in some way, or is this just a case of difference of opinions? I haven't seen DKWiki get overly concerned with MarioWiki's coverage.

I think it's mostly a difference of opinion.

if the topic has been brought up by the community, they discussed it,  and then they decided to keep it - then cool. All the power to them.

If not, then my question is: why not?

Oh, we've had a ton of proposals and discussions regarding coverage. What we cover now is the result of those discussions.

Ah, ok. Cool then.
