Story

One year after the events of Mega Man 3, Dr. Light receives a message from a Russian robotics scientist named Dr. Cossack. Cossack seeks to destroy Mega Man with eight robots of his design and prove that he is the greatest robot scientist in the world.

Gameplay

Mega Man 4 retains much of the gameplay of previous entries, including features such as the Rush abilities and the slide move introduced in Mega Man 3. Players must complete a series of eight stages and defeat a boss robot at the end of each, after which the player is given their weapon. Mega Man 4 also allows players to replay stages they have already completed.

One new ability added to this installment is the Mega Buster, which allows players to hold down the firing button to charge up a more powerful shot. Upon reaching the middle of the stage, the player will find "Flip Top", a small robot that gives Mega Man a random item such as health, weapon energy, an extra life, or an Energy Tank.
