Pokkén Tournament (named Pokémon Tekken in Germany) is a fighting game in the Pokémon series, developed by Bandai Namco based on their Tekken series of fighting games. Originally released for arcades in Japan with a trial run at select Dave & Buster's locations in North America, the game will be receiving a Wii U port in 2016.
In Japan, the Wii U port of the game was included in a hardware bundle, which includes a copy of the game pre-installed on the console, the Shadow Mewtwo amiibo Card which unlocks the character immediately, and a booklet containing all character movesets. Gameplay
Battles consist of two interchangeable phases: the Field Phase, in which players fight in 3D, and the Duel Phase, in which players fight in 2D. During battle, players are able to summon one of their two support Pokémon, which cause a variety of effects. Attacking builds up the "Resonance Gauge", which when filled makes the player more powerful and allows them to use a super move. In addition to single-player battles, multiplayer is also available, in which one player uses the Wii U GamePad screen while the other uses the TV screen with a different controller.
The game is compatible with amiibo, and by scanning up to five once a day players can obtain various bonuses.
