Actually, I think it's Mew. Nintendo applied for a trademark on "Mew" in 1990, a full nine years before Pokemon became a global phenomenon.

No. Wrong context.
Then I'm unsure. Zapdos, Xatu, Espeon, and Persian are based on Native American mythological symbols, but I don't think that's what you mean. Wargle appears to be based on America in general, and that's all I got.
