MMM01 is an officially licensed Game Boy mapper chip and memory bank controller. It is considered a "metamapper", providing a boot menu before the player selects the game, after which a separate functionality is used for that game (such as which memory banks are available within the game).
It is loosely similar to the G-MMC1, used by the first-party GB Memory cartridge, except the games which use MMM01 did not involve writing new games on to the cartridge.[1]
Nintendo-published games which use it
- None (only third party; Momotaro Collection 2 and Taito Variety Pack are known examples)
- Hong Kong Nintendo distributor Mani may have been officially involved.[2]; they may have used it as a successor to the M161.
