Masamichi Abe

Masamichi Abe is a producer in the Nintendo EPD Co-Production Group. He joined Nintendo in 1997 and probably best known in relation to Nintendo for his work on the Pikmin. [1][2].

History

Masamichi was originally a developer for Namco in 1994 specifically for the Tekken series. He left Namco and joined Nintendo in 1997 where he took on directorial duties for 1080° Snowboarding. Shortly after, he was put in charge a new title where the player would control many characters with AI alongside Shigefumi Hino. This project turned in to Pikmin where Abe handle mechanics and level design. He moved to the Nintendo of America offices in 2005 and has managed Nintendo Software Technology, starting with Metroid Prime Hunters. With the Nintendo 3DS, Abe was switch out of that role and assisted on localization of English games into Japanese. He came back to game development in 2017 where he acted as the go-between for Nintendo produced indie games alongside Takao Nakano. He also directed the Pikmin 1+2 remasters for Switch.
