NintendoWiki discussion / Re: NintendoWiki dead?
« on: March 19, 2013, 07:14:36 AM »
Hello, this is RAP, owner of NintendoWiki:

For the lack of progress for the development of the wiki, I have quite a lot of things tied to my hands. Right now, I'm attending college right now: studying and doing homework; aiming for an traditional art/graphic art degree. I'm also focused on being with my family and also been trying to not sit at the computer too much by doing activities outside of it such as walking, doing chores, and crafting. As for the stuff that I'm supposed to implement for the wiki: I still have some of the papers written down for the plans of the wiki; it's more trickier to handle because there are supposed to be a couple of sub-wikis similar to how Bulbapedia operates (and to tell you the truth, the stuff had been further fleshed out since the wiki had launched). However, the main draw is that there's tons of info I've been punching entries in and stored it up in Google Drive and Dropbox that hasn't been pulled out for 2 years; stuff that's supposed to be utilized for the wiki as info but didn't.

I'm trying to figure out how to distribute the workload to other people who are willing to help me, but I only asked for people at other wikis if they're willing to lend a hand. Nope. I haven't repeated the thing ever since. Anyway, I don't have much time to go around at this moment. I'm still optimizing my schedule as I go. Development will be moving slowly, since I still hold much of the content and currently the only staff member of the wiki (NintendoWiki only per say).

Anyway, time to snooze for college.

Welcome back "Justin of ZeldaWiki"!

...wow, I kinda sound like a robot. :P

Awww man, you guys didn't participate on the fun task of adding more links after I made my post. Oh well, more links it is~

  • http://www.kongregate.com/ - A nifty flash game portal! Unlike other websites, for game designers - you can upload your own Flash-based games, and it has achievements too. It has been recently bought up by Gamestop, <echo>"Power to the players"</echo>.
  • http://freeware.remakes.org/ - Flooded with freeware games, original or remake! An insane amount of variety when it comes to established genres, with over a thousand games you can try out (although counts imitations...). This really reminds me of GameHippo, a website that died 2 or 3 years ago...long live the website.
  • http://www.coverbrowser.com/ - A large database of cover image scans ranging from books, to comics, to video games. VIDEO GAMES!
  • http://www.upcdatabase.com/ - UPC Codes? Every piece of them contains info that is used more than just item products. There's a person who own website uploads UPC codes as a hobby, a very nice, and interesting hobby. There are people who are volunteering to this. I just hope the info is not tampered!

Hooray! Some people filled in the spots - time for the continuation of endless flow of hyperlinks!!

  • http://www.boardgamegeek.com/ - A database from the oldest board games in existence to the latest in awe. Has a thriving community.
  • http://www.fileinfo.com/ - Not sure how these filetypes work, or what they mean (such as .dll, .ico, and .log)? Approach this knowledgeable creature!
  • http://www.archive.org/ - One of the first internet archiving websites in the world...travel back in time and compare websites from today to the past, or use it for research, or find webpages that existed back then before it's disappearance. The layout has been recently revamped to have a more smoother experience.
  • http://www.worldometers.info/ - Ever assumed the world was boring? You must be mistaken deeply! The world is moving very fast, proven with the increasing numbers of statistics you can see in real-time. Here's some good examples (5/27/11 - 6:33pm PST): The population is almost 7 billion right now, 55,780 species have gone extinct this year, over 2.1 billions of tons of food have been produced, we have 15,532 days left until every last drop of oil is used, and over 2 billion internet users are roaming!
  • http://www.replacementdocs.com/ - Database of scanned game manuals from the oldies, to the newies!

White thick styrofoam walls. The texture is pretty good if you think about it.

Hey, every forum needs one of these bad boys! So what not start with this? I have loads of links up in my arsenal, but it might be too much for you guys to handle - plus I don't have much time in my hands to drop in a megaton as I hoped...and here we go:

  • Flip Text: Ever thought of writing your text in a different way? ยก??d s? ?s?? s? ?x?? ??? d??? 's??? ???? op u?? no? ?ou - Limitations are apparent, such as the numbers however.
  • Tonematrix: Tweak around a grid of pixels a bit and you can make some 2 second pieces of tunes. I seen these types of tools on iPhones and gadgets, but never tried it. Pretty fun if you ask me.
  • 72 Hours: Are you prepared?: This is serious stuff. This website gives you instructions on preparing for the worst disastrous events you'll face during your lifetime. Think of Japan, Haiti, and the recent disasters in the US - particularly the east coast. This thing might save your life one day.
  • Plagiarism Today: Feeling like specializing in legal stuff is your best trademark? Or need help dealing...with this thing? This provides some insight thought on the concept of plagiarism, and related topics to this.
  • TheJendra: A series of very helpful articles from a guy named "Tenjendra" who faces a ton of cooperate business back then. He's written a diversity of books, and has generously hosted several free articles for users to read and learn.

Anyone else give a shot? Come on...it's not going to fill itself with more links unless you guys do it.

Would you like me to report this news in the public, more specifically for MarioWiki's The Shroom?

I checked the entry of his death once more and saw this (this message wasn't there before when it was first announced):

Quote
"Joshua Paul LeJeune passed away Friday, March 18, 2011 in his residence. He was born June 25, 1980 to Johnnie and Brenda LeJeune. He was a native and lifelong resident of Lake Charles.

Josh was a 1998 graduate of Barbe High School and was employed as a technician at Inland Industrial. He was an Eagle Scout at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Josh was a very talented graphic designer and artist. He was a respected Zelda theorist, Zelda Wiki admin, NIWA co-founder and Wikirby founder/owner.

He is survived by his mother, Brenda LeJeune of Lake Charles; two sisters, Dawn Daigle and husband, Mark Daigle of Lake Charles, Erica LeJeune and longtime companion Jason Kleven of Lake Charles; step brother, Casey LeJeune of Lake Charles; two nieces, Danika Kleven and Ava Kleven; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his father, Johnnie P. LeJeune.

Josh was loved by all who knew him. We will remember you for who you were: respected, kindhearted, and caring.

Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at 10:00 AM in Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Consolata Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 1:00 PM-9:00 PM with a rosary at 7:00 PM. Visitation will continue Wednesday at 8:00 AM until time of service."

The funeral has already passed. On Wednesday...that was somewhat fast. Once again, everyone will indeed miss him.

Awww man... Axiomist... I'm even more sad today! (cries more)

He is very well known for his Zelda puzzle drawings that are designed to make us think (and eventually rot our brains), and an fan of the Kirby, and The Legend of Zelda series. Non-ZW wiki members only know him for about a year ever since NIWA was debuted, some even with a few months. We first became friends when we talked to each other via PM back in the Bulbapedia forums...something about Zelda as an RPG, genre stuff. He actually guided me very well...in terms of NintendoWiki, personal problems, and encouragement.

Hearing about this, I really wish someone from his family would get his stuff relating to NIWA (you know, notes and plans) so someone else can take his place for WiKirby as he was the founder of it. It would be great to try implementing the stuff he has written out before passing away.

You will be indeed very missed.

(plays "This Broken Soul", a sad song from The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night - provided by me)

Finished up The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Wii (Third Zelda game I touched, first one I finished), and I'm going to finish up Spyro: Year of the Dragon for the Playstation. I need to get all the gems, dragon eggs, and complete those special tasks to get skillpoints!

A good reason to watch football even if you're not a fan of it in general: Those freaking commercials! That's what makes it so watchable! The Super Bowl (as far as I know) seems to have a history of rolling out those commercials to show off some snazzy products. Even well known ones such as Coke Cola (with partnership with The Simpsons) gathered attention.

@Tacopill: Go "Don'twatchfootball" team go! Go nail both of dem' teams! NAIL EM' to the deadly shame zone!

Kirby / Re: "Sorry to keep you waiting!" x2
« on: January 30, 2011, 09:24:33 PM »
Man...! I have a feeling 2011 will be another blast for Nintendo. A Kirby DS game, and now another Wii Kirby game?! It makes Kirby's Epic Yarn look like it pulled off a SMB2.

What, that Epic yarn will be made into a Black sheep in terms of style?
Kirby's Epic Yarn was originally a different game under development of Good-feel, they were having trouble thinking what to do, and when someone decided to put in Kirby in - it felt perfect. The only difference to this is that SMB2 (not Lost Levels) and the original game Doki Doki Panic was released in their respective territories, while Kirby's Epic Yarn is released with the remains of the original game inside (Prince Fluff anyone?). So we'll probably never see a prototype of the original intention for a while.

The Lounge / Re: NGP vs. 3DS
« on: January 30, 2011, 07:41:12 AM »
The 3DS, unless Nintendo makes a successor to it very quickly, I suspect I'll be grabbing one in the next three years.

Pretty much the same way with me. I'll wait for the fifth version of it. Knowing Nintendo...

- 3DS
- 3DS Lite
- 3DSi
- 3DSXL
- 3DSi Lite XL
- 3DSi Liter XXL

So I'll likely be waiting for the 3DSi Liter XXL. Unless they come out with a game I REALLY want.

As for the new Sony thing, I agree that's a weird acronym but I would like to know more about the games first.
Actually, Iwata (I think) said they probably won't have a 3DS Lite, since they've taken all the stuff they've learned from making a handheld small with the DS Lite and used it for the regular 3DS.
Indeed, in that effect - customers will either have to wait for the next revision longer, or buy the 3DS at launch. The former will be more painful if they're missing out the experiences.

As for the 3DS vs. PSP2, my curiosity remains in full form on how both of them will function. However, as Iwata said: "We are trying to appeal to customers from different directions, the ones who will decide which is best are the customers."1 Good for Nintendo gamers, Sony/Playstation gamers, casual gamers, and people who never touched a gaming console before.

NIWA Discussion / The Nintendo Wiki
« on: December 12, 2010, 09:29:31 PM »
Hello readers - I'm RAP, the creator of Nintendo Wiki (usually called "N Wiki"). I originate from the Super Mario Wiki as a former Sysop when NIWA was first being developed. The Nintendo Wiki covers anything Nintendo-related - primarily covering anything the company has done, along with its employees, their thoughts, and actions. Its more than just the games they produced at first glance.

The idea came up to me earlier this year when I was off the computer, having other things to do during the day. It was during the time NIWA was formed. I've been thinking of the three wikis since they formed an alliance, and seeing that there are series-less articles about Nintendo consoles, along with the people who work for Nintendo such as Shigeru Miyamoto, I thought - 'Why not put it into good use and have a wiki based on anything Nintendo-related'? Another primary purpose is that the wiki would let the rest of the world know the complete info about Nintendo instead of relying on Wikipedia for the info. People who play some of the most popular franchises should know a decent amount of info about the company. Think about it, casual people think Nintendo as a friendly company who makes "kiddie games" - but more willing readers, and the people who know Nintendo very well will know the true side of Nintendo between back then, and now.

With the idea gathering positive reception by the general staff conscious, I started gathering Nintendo links/hyperlinks, and started learning more about Nintendo by reading over time. During that period, I've been waiting and asking when the N Wiki website is going to be set up. Eventually, after waiting somewhat patiently, Archaic finally told me it's open!

At the time he told me that, I was the only one doing some of the work. It felt odd working by myself when other people were busy with their own respective wikis. Then with the assistance of some of the notable NIWA staff members such as TTE (who assisted me at an earlier time), and Tacopill (who came at a later time - also assisting me) - content was made, templates were created, and the stuff they did increased the development of the wiki as time goes. There were some wiki activity droughts here and there during the "behind the scenes" period, but relief was made thanks to these two members. In addition, credit to dkpat for making this nice, technical skin along with the logo he finalized from my concept drawing.

Nintendo Wiki launches a new era that offers unbiased information concerning Nintendo-all in one central encyclopedia. The wiki's primary focus is items that relate directly to Nintendo as a company: Its products, its people, and its actions. N Wiki also shall have a secondary focus on items that indirectly relate to Nintendo, such as notable third parties and contractors, as well as notable Nintendo-related products that they have produced. I honor the many Nintendo fan sites and communities whether they are successful or struggling for life, as well as those who have dematerialized to simple memories.

With that said, there's going to be more to come in the future, and I need your help to get there. You can help by visiting the wiki, and make a contribution by providing info, organizing info, or uploading images.

The Lounge / Alphabet story game
« on: November 27, 2010, 01:48:59 AM »
I'm kinda bored... even during my time sorting hyperlinks for a secret wiki project after two weeks of not working on them. So after a few lines of chat in NIWA Staff forums, I came up a game to play. Make a set of mini-stories or sentences by thinking up words based on the alphabet. You must fill them all to complete the procedure.

Here's mine: "Alliance Bores Creativity - Duplicating Equality For Greatful. However, Ignorant Jacks Krack Legs - Must Neglect Of Peers.  Queen Raves Satisfying Tongue. U Vex Willpower Xtremely. Yours Zelfishly."

Try it out!

The Lounge / Re: Nintendo News Blog
« on: November 14, 2010, 08:10:34 AM »
Just my two cents, it's a good idea - until you realize you're surrounded by every top blog and website dedicated to Nintendo, and even websites like IGN, and GameSpot that get a good chunk of Nintendo stuff. I like the idea, but I don't know how to fare this.

Maybe a better idea would be to affiliate with GoNintendo (a blog website that drops in more than a dozen pieces of news everyday in quick readable pieces and had a link to it's source) and have the hyperlinks that link to NIWA's respective wikis, but that's just my thought.

BTW, I accidentally picked the first option of the poll. I was supposed to pick the second one. Sorry about that.
