Fire Emblem 64, also known as Fire Emblem: The Maiden of Darkness[1], was a cancelled Nintendo 64 installment in the Fire Emblem series. The title was originally stated to be in development by Shigeru Miyamoto during an interview with Dengeki Nintendo 64, claiming that the game would likely be released in late 1998, following Super Mario RPG 2.[2] The game started development for the Nintendo 64DD, but was later shifted to a standard Nintendo 64 Game Pak.[3][4]

Although Fire Emblem 64 was shown as Space World 2000, the game was cancelled and development was restarted on the Game Boy Advance due to structural changes at Intelligent Systems.[1][5] While the game's story and characters were completely changed, some of the original game's concepts were carried over for the Game Boy Advance title, which became Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade.[1]
