Fire Emblem is the seventh main installment in the Fire Emblem series, released under the name "Fire Emblem" in outside Japan due to it being the first game in the series to have an official release outside of Japan, after the appearances of protagonists Marth and Roy in Super Smash Bros. Melee which sparked western interest in the franchise. To that end, this game was developed to be a prequel to the previous game, Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade, which starred Roy as the protagonist.

The fires of war, rekindled!

After centuries of peace, smoldering rivalries threaten to set the world aflame in a blaze of battle! The drums of war beat, noble houses plot treason, allies become enemies, and as Lycia stands poised for war, a shadowy figure manipulates empires for his own ends. Now, Lyn, Eliwood, and Hector must amass an army strong enough to fight back the forces that would destroy their homeland. Master battle tactics to douse the embers before they burn the world to ash.

  • Build your army! Gather heroes to your side and hone their skills in battle, but guard them carefully–if they fall in battle, they're gone forever.
  • Plan your strategy! Know your units' strengths, and guide them into the fray. Will you send your pegasus knights high across the mountains, or will your cavaliers ride to face your foe at lance-point on the plains?
  • Command the field of war! Train your soldiers to master a wide array of weapons, from swords, bows, and lances to the powerful legendary weapons Durandal and Armads. Even expert tacticians will find a world of challenge awaiting them.

Plot

Fire Emblem stars three characters: new character Lyn, and Eliwood and Hector, the fathers of The Binding Blade's Roy and Lilina. The player, controlling an avatar character, wakes up in a house and meets Lyn, but her house is attacked by bandits. Lyn and the player set out to avenge her dead tribe, but their party end up having to defeat the brother of Lyn's grandfather, who wishes to take the throne of Caelin (which Lyn is next in line for) for himself.

A year later, the marques of Pheraes and Eliwood's father Lord Elbert have vanished while traveling abroad. Eliwood sets out to find them, and joins up with Lyn, Mark, and several others to defeat the sorcerer Nergal, who wishes to summon the banished dragons back to the country.
